Citroen Engine Rev Problem

Post by xBrito »

I drive a Citroen C4 Grand Picasso 1.6D 2014, which I have owned from new and just passed the 96k miles mark. Over the last year it has developed an intermittent problem almost similar to that of clutch slip. When I press the accelerator, normally in 6th Gear, the engine will rev, but there will not be much pick-up. Sometimes the gear indicator will show 5 or 6, even though I am already in 6th. The Eco-option, will also switch off?

As I say this is an intermittent fault, and there is no smell of the clutch burning or slipping. I did have the clutch master cylinder changed earlier this year and that did seam to improve the issue but not irradicate.

As the cost of a new clutch is £600+ I'd like to be sure this is the fault before I lay out such a high cost

Any one experienced the same? :?:

Sorry, but it sounds to me like clutch slip :(
The gear indicator probably works by one of the ECUs comparing the engine RPM to the road speed and using the ratio to guess which gear is selected, this would be fooled by a slipping clutch.

You should be able to confirm clutch slip by simultaneously watching the speedo and the tacho.
Under heavy throttle, they should climb at the same rate (as if they were tied to each other), but if the tacho 'runs away' (climbs faster), that indicates clutch slip.

What gearbox has this got? It sounds like an EGS semi-auto? There is no master cylinder on these, as the electro hydraulic actuator controls the slave (which is inside the bell housing), so not sure what you had changed. Given that the eco mode (stop-start presumably?) switches off, I wonder if it is more of electrical glitch that is causing the gearbox to be confused about which ratio it is selecting - it could possible just be that it needs a new battery. I would take a trip up to Ilkeston as Bick says and get Mark Lightfoot to look at it. Oh, and a new clutch on one of these is going to be more than £600 - I'd be surprised if there was much change from a grand....

And what about the Dual Mass Flywheel? This can also cause slipping - if you have your VIN we can check exactly what you do and don’t have.
