Citroen C5 2.2L shudders on acceleration and under load

I've got a new shudder doing through the steering wheel which is getting progressively worse usually as the car accelerating from 30 through to 60 and under load. I thought it might have been a brake binding issue but checked the wheel temp when I stopped and didnt notice any extra heat from the that area. I also noticed today that there were a couple of noticeable flat spots on hard acceleration and generally the previously silky smooth 2.2L engine feels a bit reluctant and twitchy like there is something holding it back. These might be two completely different issues but wondered where I might look first at the shuddering issue.

Wheel Balancing, Warped Discs (more of an issue in the winter / rain when the hot discs are rapidly cooled and heated), Drive Shafts - a drive with a mechanic might be able to nail it, otherwise get it on a ramp and get it inspected - the longer it is left the more likely it is to have a knock on effect with other components

That wouldn't explain flat spots and a hesitation feeling from the engine though.

I have the same symptoms from my 2.0 hdi ATM (have had for about 6months) coupled with it being a bit more smokey than before. I put a post up at the time and have picked away at investigating bit by bit, but haven't been able to track the cause down yet.
Found the air filter was partially collapsed (looked like it had got wet somehow!) so changed that, cleaned out the egr (can spray treatment not removed it) but only very minor improvements. I'm sure I have a leak on the intake system somewhere (there is faint turbo whistle) and come mot time the tester said he would be the sthe cause of the smoke (it only just passed smog test) but I haven't managed to find a leak anywhere yet.

If the air filter is wet then the MAF may well be contaminated - happened to me a while back when my wheel arch liner disintegrated and the 'snorkel' thingy sucked up a load of spray and roadside crap.

You may be able to resuscitate it with carb cleaner - this has worked for me but the one above was way past that.

Will take a look.
The gauze looked clean from the side I was spraying egr cleaner into (even before I started) but will have a look the other side now, just in case.
