2006 diesel Berlingo van alternator belt
What's involved, changing the alternator / power steering belt on a 2006 diesel Berlingo?
Re: 2006 diesel Berlingo van alternator belt
They are okay but if its a 1.6hdi 16v DO NOT TURN THE ENGINE BACKWARDS to fit the belt! If you really have no idea you could do a youtube search this will give you a good idea.

I did find one vid on youtube but it was in Russian. Nonetheless it did give a good idea - it looks like all you have to do is pry the idler back out of the way to allow the belt to be slipped on?
The guy on the video did it through the wheelarch with the van up on a lift, with the wheel removed. Can it be done (although maybe trickier) from the top of the engine bay without jacking up, wheel off etc?

You can, but it's a complete pain in the backside. For the amount of time it takes to jack it up, stick a stand under it, remove the wheel and archliner, it's a no-brainer to do it that way.

I guess so, except my jack is under ten tons of the missus' junk in the shed, and the berlingo is at the roadside in the armpit of nowhere
Belt actually seemed to go on really easily when I tried earlier, but then I found I had about a foot of 'extra' belt hanging loose off the engine pulley
Parts dealer was adamant it was the correct belt, this was backed up by a second parts dealer (they both used the vehicle reg to select the belt which was a '6PK1438'
I'd told them it was a diesel with power steering but no aircon, this seemed to tally with what their systems were telling them off the reg plate
Can only assume I'm trying to put the belt on the wrong way?
here's how i'm trying to fit it..
I must be routing it wrong, or not seeing a pulley or idler somewhere?

oh yes, the 'its not nearly as obvious as you'd think' Serpentine arrangement.
Been there, done the head-scratching; empathy !!
....in my case on a PAS and AC set up, not too bad once you've done it a couple of times, but utterly baffling first time around.
