Hi,
It has been sometime that my 2007 407SW 2.2 Petrol has been making a diesel noise / rattle. This is especially apparent during cold start or high RPM. To my understanding, the sound is caused by a failing VVT Cam Gear. I am wondering, how bad should things get before I spend the money to replace it? Since it is a quite an expensive part. I also notice a flat spot during full throttle when my engine accelerates between 3700RPM to 4100RPM. And fuel mileage has not been great, I average 12.9L/100Km, which in my opinion is very high.
Your suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

It's an old thread but the problem for owners of the EW12J4 is the same.
In this Youtube video you should be able to find the reason and a solution:
In UK you can buy a spring at https://www.ashfield-springs.com/shop/c ... gs-11-20mm
It's S330 spring you need according to the video.
Inside EU you can buy a similar spring at:

It's on your own risk to do the repair - Youtube have a lot of content, not all is correct.
