Hi all,

Can a nice person (RichardW?) give me some real-world fuel consumption figures for the manual HDi 1.6 Grand Picasso?

Madam has a 58 plate 1.6hdi C4GP and even with her divers boots she gets 45mpg at this time of year.

Thanks Eddie. That's not bad. My petrol is getting 35mpg. I was just wondering what the real-world difference was. I'm not sure if I like that or not. It doesn't need *any* other work for a long time so it's not going to cost me anything apart from fuel and tyres.

It's a big heavy lump of a car so I would be happy with that figure from a petrol.

By comparison I get 45mpg/winter and 50mpg/summer out of my Volvo S60 with the 2.4d5 in it and my brother gets over 50mpg out of his 1.6hdi C5 now it's been sorted.

I used to get 43 ish out of my C5 Tourer 163 Hdi, now I get 47 ish out of my 1.6 Blue Hdi (Un-Grand) Picasso with similar use.

If I was a little more gentle 50 mpg should be possible in the Pic without obsessing about it. I have the my Citroen app on my phone so it tells me consumption figures per journey, by chance I did a long section of 50 limit Motorway a few nights back and stopped soon after for a coffee, it showed 56 mpg for that section, 49 mpg for the rest of the trip home, 130 miles which was conducted mostly at 70-75.

The Pic is very high geared, so I find myself changing down 6th to 5th (or even 4th) to make progress. In 6th, it seems happiest above 70 rather than just below, settled in to long french autoroute trips at 80+ much better than UK ones at 70. It strikes me that they have sacrificed drivebility for published emission/consumption numbers that are not achievable in the real world.

Its not a bad drive, but in the C5 you could just boot it hard in almost any gear and off it went.

It's probably the most variable car we've had. Ours is 16v 5 speed grand. Round town 40 or less (it's hilly here). Open road run kept down to 50 it heads towards upper 40s. M-way at 77 indicated cruise about 42. The computer is indicating a long term average of around 42. I suspect the maf is not brilliant in ours - but it's consistently returned those figs over 60k. My sister's 8v with 6 spd egs is about 5 mpg better in each case (5seater)

Don't forget to factor in Elloys fluid, injectors, turbos,egr valves, dpf replacement or clean out + diesel fuel costs more to buy.
Never see any major issues with the petrol ones.

That's exactly why I bought a petrol one in the first place

It's actually a really nice thing to drive and it'll be staying. It also had a new timing belt/waterpump/tensioners within the last 9 months, and a new clutch. I just wish I could solve the wind noise, and could be bothered to fit parking sensors for the missus as she keeps asking me to! Already done 3500 miles in it in not much more than 6 weeks, at an average, according to the 2nd trip computer, of 34.4mpg, which with leadfoot wifey driving it around town, is only 3mpg worse than the 207 we had was.
