C5 2003 Estate rear wiper loose + boot lights fixed ?

Post by spiff »

Good evening from a very wet and windy Mullion Cove Cornwall.

The wind hit 70mph yesterday evening, cars in the garage safe : )

The rear wiper appears to be loose on the shaft.

Any tips on how to remove the plastic cover would be of help : )

Also is it just a matter of tightening a nut ?

Another odd thing was that the two boot lights have never worked, I took them out today and both had the plugs out.

Put them back in and they are fine, they go off when the internal lights do so that is not the reason they had been disconnected.

The way to remove the tailgate glass switch cover is to carefully push a small blade screwdriver into the little hole on the lower plastic, at the lowest point. This moves back a 'U' of plastic from the latch on the lower half. You should then (with the screwdriver holding the 'U' open) be able to pull the upper plastic part away. There is a nut underneath which is now revealed, and a socket (I cannot remember which size) should be able to tighten it up.

Thank you for the comprehensive instructions, it saves so much time and risk of damage prizing bits of plastic : )

I think I may have caused the fault, I use a length of thin bungee type cord from there to the radio aerial when I garage the car.

If left full up the aerial catches on the garage door as I reverse in bending it right forward.

One day I forgot or was too lazy to remove it and wipe washed the rear screen, it was stuck between the shroud and the wiper : )

Should be able to pull the car forward and fix it in the garage as the chill factor in this wind is no joke.

It surprised me when we got the C5 that it is longer than the Xantia was.

Mine turned out to be different, the cover over the rear wiper fixing nut just pulls off.

The plastic of the wiper had broken away from a knurled nut that threaded on the shaft.

I cleaned out the rest of the broken bits where it was attached to this nut and put a washer inside.

This with the fixing nut on the outside tightened up holds the wiper to the shaft fine.
