My C5 Woes

Post by davoxx »

Made the switch to C5. A 2.0Hdi 09 exclusive!!
Woe is me.

So am getting punctured tyre warning every now and then, especially when it's cold. I pumped tyres up when cold, will this fix it?

I'm going to add a towbar, is ther anything special connection module from Citroen for this? How does it affect the reverse sensors?

I have 19" alloys, I hate it the ride, will 16" fit? I can't find 18", but a friend has a set and offered them to me.

The car also pulls to the left, and has plenty of wheelspin on takeoff. Is this a sign of s**t tires?

How easy/hard is it to swap to satnav, there is a crashed car with sat nav, what would be needed to upgrade mine to sat nav? Does it need to be from the same year?

Phew a load of questions...

1) Tyre Pressure Monitoring System - ensure you inflate the tyres to the correct pressures (check inside driver's door pillar for PSA / Bar) - don't over inflate. The system is very accurate and is not often wrong.

2) Re Towbar, my advice is to fit a proper kit that has the necessary electronics to communicate with the car's ESP ECU - which, when actually towing, will allow the system to provide an appropriate ESP programme to account for a trailer / caravan. This will also automatically deactivate the rear parking assistance when connected. If you post up your VIN I can probably find the kit for you.

3) 16" ‘LAPLAND’wheels were only fitted to the VTR (215/60/R16) and 16” ‘IROISE’ (225/55/R16) to the VTR+ NAV in 2009. So as long as they meet the specs.

4)Wheel spin should be limited with the ESP / ASR system (unless temporarily switched off), so yes, very likely to be the tyres. As for pulling - tracking and alignment would be recommended - but only when you have decided on what on are doing with the choice of wheels / tyres first as if you later change them for a different size this can affect the setup. I would also take it to a place with laser tracking that also knows the difference between the C5 models (MK I to MK III) - some do not and this has caused problems with the wrong settings applied!

5) Regarding the Sat Nav - no it is not just a matter of swapping it over. There are so many possibilities, so we would need your current VIN and the exact system (or even better the VIN) from the donor car. Different Sat Nav systems have different colour screens - there are 2 types and certain systems will not work with the other. Next, depending on the donor system, there may be add-on modules like Nomad / hands free kit / Bluetooth (several options, USB box, MDS Services Module, which have to be considered, plus configuration of the unit and the correct options set in Diagbox before it will work. If you decide to consider this, best post a separate topic for further questions in the Audio / Telematics section. And to answer the second part of the question, the year is not the question, it it the electronic architecture of the car v the system. So a later SMEG system with touch screen will not work in a 2009 car. RT4/5, MyWay, RT6 should do and possibly NG4 - depending on what supporting kit you already have in the car (or not).

What's wrong with 17" wheels ? :) There should be a good selection of second hand C5 17" wheels available.

Thanks for the answers.
VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]

I don't see the sticker for pressures for tyres on my car, I have them at 2.5bar, but the warning come up.

I think the 16" alloy is only for the 1.6HDi, maybe smaller brakes? 19" tyres are too expensive and the alloys keep getting kerbed, so I'm looking for a set of 16/17" but thinking the 16" might be too soft.

Not going to do the sat nav, sounds too big a job, and I don't have time to go through it.

As for Tyres - check on the passenger or driver side centre pillars - but if not there, it might be worth investing the princely sum of 40 pence from Citroen who will order the one from your VIN - then you'll always have it handy.

As for the tyres your best bet is stick to 17" - plenty to choose from as Bobins says.

No problems - as for the Sat Nav, you currently have the standard RD4 / MP3 CD system so won't have the GPS antennae mounted on the roof.

Here's a set of X7 wheels - with tyres which have about 5-5.5 mm of tread - not bad when you consider the cost of the tyres alone these days:

Some of those look like MK II wheels and would appear to have different offsets that the X7 ones....

And that last link - A citroen C5 "Dynamique" - really.... this guy doesn't know his Renaults from his Citroens.

They're all X7 'Persian' wheels, though I agree that one of the sellers seems a little off the mark when he refers to them being from a 1.6 Dynamique

This would appear to be the electrics kit, but I would check with the main dealer as to what else you need apart from the towbar - it isn't clear whether the Trailer Fuse Box Unit for the electrics is also needed - I suspect it might, but they should be able to advise you and do the configuration for you if getting it fitted by them.

I must say while I like a lot about the C5 I hate a lot too!!

I hate the beep from open boot warning that never shuts up and hides the main display on the dash. (Wish I got the estate over the saloon, the old xantia hatchback was awesome.)
The mirror does not flip down on reverse like in the Xantia.
