807 brake pedal going down

Post by Humph7 »

The pedal seems to be going slowly to the floor. There are no leaks to be seen anywhere. Is it the master cylinder? it has done 250,000 kms

Two possible reasons, if the car has ABS/ESP and the pedal only creeps down with the engine running then it could be air in the ABS, otherwise it's likely to be the master cylinder seals and at that mileage a new master cylinder would be needed although you might get away with fitting a new seal kit.

The abs shows a fault on the screen - could that be linked? I will order a new kit otherwise.

Could that indicate a faulty abs pump? There is a problem and the garage suggested a new steering angle sensor and pump.

Go to this thread there's a lot about it and if you scroll down I posted a video of the procedure for secondary bleeding.

The pedal only creeps down with the engine running. Should I be able to hear the abs pump working like in the video?

No, that's the automatic bleeding working, you will only hear that when you're using the diagnostic kit to bleed the abs. pump.
As shown in the video you keep a little foot pressure on the pedal and the system does the rest.

Would air in the system throw a fault message?

Sorry that's not something that I'm competent to advise on.

Have a read of the manual, it looks like it is a scanning / fault finding tool only.
