807 gearbox cable release
How does one get the cables off? I don't want to break anything - it's dark now but will continue tomorow. I am taking the engine out so I can change the glow plugs and lift & clean the injectors if possible.

They may have buttons on the top to press, or otherwise they 'just' lever off - can take some force. An open ended spanner under the joint with an appropriate fulcrum can work. If you can post the VIN we might be able to work it out.

Re: 807 gearbox cable release
Thanks for the help. It is a chilly morning here in central France with the mercury at 0C. Skies are clear with the promise of sun later.
The Vin is VF3**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]
I bought the car from a neighbour for its scrap value, but it is such a nice vehicule that I want to save it. There are 241,000 kms on the clock which is the limit and due for a belt change at least. The glow plugs packed up last spring and the injectors really ought to be pulled so that they can be cleaned and tested. The garage changed the accessory belt without changing a seized alternator pulley which was causing a growl at tick over and the tensioner to bounce crazily.
