Been looking thru previous posts on cooling fan problems but cant really find anything that describes my mk 1 Xantias symptoms so here goes.....
The other day I was sitting in heavy traffic and the temp gauge was sitting just over 80 and the fans hadn't kicked in, they normally would have by now.
Got home and checked a few things, pulled off the brown plug by the thermo housing and the fans started up for about 30 seconds then stopped ?
Pulled the plug on the dryer bottle switch and bridged the two appropriate wires and the fans started on high. The A/C has never worked since I've owned the car which hasn't bothered me as it doesn't get that hot here , but I would still like to get it going as reading thru the forums A/C and cooling problems are all related. I checked the compressor clutch for operation by directly giving it 12 v and it clicks in and out ok, but if I bridge the 2 terminals in the dryer switch plug the clutch doesn't do its thing. Lately when I've started her in the morning the heater fan will start even tho the fan speed control switch is off !
