I've just had 3 ltrs of fresh oil put in my '09 C5's gearbox, courtesy of Malcolm at Savoy Garage - its really made a difference to the low-speed changes, they're much smoother now. I'd already bought the oil from Smith and Allen, the JWS3309 stuff, and there's now 2 ltrs left in the container. I've just called at a mate's for a brew and was telling him about the fluid change - he's got 5 ltrs of ECP's Triple QX Multi Vehicle ATF-U that he's offered me for £15. Looking at the blurb on it, it has JWS3309 in its spec list. Would there be any harm in using this for the next 3 ltr change do you think? Or should I stick to the same brand?
Mind you, thinking about it, the S&A stuff seems to have mixed nicely with the black gunge that's been in the box from new, so perhaps I'm overthinking things!

Re: Mixing gearbox oil.
Providing it meets the same specification then mixing should not be a problem. Personally, I would Google both oils and compare the data sheets, and not rely on the information on the bottle, just to make sure. The JWS3309 is a Toyota spec and is available online.

Is there any point risking it when the proper stuff is £13 a litre:

Re: Mixing gearbox oil.
I found that S & A was one of the very few suppliers of the correct spec. oil, when I was gently put right about the correct weight oil to use - AND a little under £20 for 5 litres. Somewhat curiously, few, if any, of their other products are so keenly priced.

£11.95 from opie (plus £3.50 delivery but then minus discount of 10% if you use code LUDEGEN )

Just noticed they also do 5Litre packs of LHM for less than available on ebay, too (hadn't noticed them on their store last time I checked);
