removing fine scratches from w/screen...

Recommendations for something that will remove fine wiper scratches from the windscreen. My ZX is now 22 years old - all but three days - and I've finally got tired of looking through the glare of oncoming traffic at night! I've heard Jeweller's Rouge is good for this; has anyone tried it?

I hate to state the obvious, but 22 years is pretty good for a windshield!

I've just changed the screen on the C5 X7 last year and on the MK II previous to that. Probably all the chippings on the roads around here - that, and the very soft material it seems to be made from these days. I found it easier and extremely cost effective to pay the windscreen excess of £90 and get a new one fitted as there was noway I was ever going to get rid of the thousands of pits in the screen. Obviously no good if you don't have that cover on your insurance - but I'm guessing you may not with the ZX?...

That's pretty impressive stuff.

Some years ago I had the screen replaced on the Xsara and as a treat I put a brand-new pair of Bosch wiper blades on. Would you believe that the effing things scratched the new screen? That was the last time I used branded blades; back to Aldi cheapos after that.

I used to use Bosch - but they have gone to pot Paul. Squeaking and the scratching - but now, guess what - I went back to Citroen branded ones and they just work - no squeaks and bliss.

Did years of Bosch, too. Yes, they went completely to pot, and on more than one car.
Now use Denso blades (a Toyota part) on XM and RAV4. Top quality, and available as simple rubber 'refills'.

Stickyfinger: With a 22-year-old ZX, I think any insurance claim for more than a fiver would write it off!!

I doubt T-Cut and Windolene would be man enough for the job. You would also need the power buffing tools or similar shown in the video.

The only difference between Windowlene and the 3M stuff is that the latter has grit in it as a cutting agent and Windowlene has glass in it.

Oh and the 3M stuff is at least £40 I'll stick as I am thanks!

This is a really interesting thread - my C1 came with and still has a scratched arc on the rear screen which I would like to polish out but I worry about making things worse. So, sounds like a buffer plus t-cut might do it.

The key is doing it in stages - deep enough to cut the scratches then lowering the pad abrasiveness to get that glass like finish back so you don't end up with worse swirl marks - or that will be a killer in the strong sunlight / night headlamp glare. Great if you have the polishing tool, the pads / discs, compound etc. already to hand. I do, but don't trust my skills at using it effectively and didn't want to make it worse - so said sod it - for £90 I'll have a brand new one, ta muchly.

Looking on a well-known auction site and finding the price was an eye-watering £40 - £50 gave me pause for thought. And that was for a litre as well. I know a ZX screen is quite large, but that much polishing stuff is overkill.
Anyway, I have more important things to think about at the moment. 'Old Clanky' as she is affectionately known, failed her controle technique this morning with a front brake imbalance, so polishing out scratches from the windscreen is most definitely on the back burner.
Oh well, onwards and upwards...

Windowlene has "glass" in it ?

The 3m stuff is a "breakdown" abrasive.....£40 is less than the cost of a new screen.
