Xantia 2.0 Hdi high idle speed colder weather

Engine speed at start up is a lot higher recently. Guess could be linked to the colder weather because it was normal on warmer days. It can go up to 2000+ sometimes and stay there when I lift foot off the pedal, somewhat disconcerting at slow speeds! This condition is only temporary as it goes back to normal when engine is up to temperature after a run. Anyone had this problem? Guessing MAF or coolant sensor. Thanks.

Mine tends to increase idle speed in this colder weather from approx 850 to 950 rpm but never as high as 2000 rpm. (same model as yours)

Have you checked the throttle cable for signs of a broken strand that may be catching and holding the idle very high?

Second line of diagnosis would be a session on a Lexia to verify temperature sensor amongst other things.

Thanks for reply. Checked the throttle cable, smooth operation, no problems there. Lexia shows the following Intermittent faults:
1. Flow meter short circuit, open circuit or short circuit to earth.
2. Accelerator pedal sensor 2 coherence with accelerator pedal 1.
Fault 1 looks promising so I’ll check the wiring and earth connection and possibly replace.
Regarding fault 2, I have replaced the throttle position sensor with new and fault remains.

The answer was a duff MAF sensor. Changed for new and everything is back to normal.
