106 Water getting in advice needed please.

Hi guys,

I hope someone can give me some pointers on where to start looking.

My daughter has a 62 plate 106 and recently, after heavy rain, a puddle of water about 1/2 inch deep gathers in the passenger foot well.

It happens when car is parked in heavy rain.

After soaking up most of the water, I ran a hose over the top and sides of car but no water seemed to get in So I told her she must have left a window open
However, last night it rained buckets and a puddle appeared this morning.

Car doesn't have a sunroof.

I would be very grateful for any tips on what to look for and possible causes.

My best guess is the drain for the heater (fresh air intake) is blocked.
They are often in the wheel wells - use a hose on the screen on the opposite side and see where it comes out,
Unless you have a sunroof - could be the drains for that either blocked or come apart somewhere - in the door pillar for example.

Another possibility is the plastic membrane behind the door car has failed.

Also, even though the windscreen is bonded in, that does not guarantee the screen is no the cause... The bonding can fail enough to le water in.

In such cases as these, remove all the carpets and then it's easier to see the water ingress route... Look for old water stains as clues to where it might be coming in.

Also with the carpets out and when it's raining it is easier to see where the initial flow is occurring and thus will again help to pin-point the source.

Remember the source and eventual destination can be well separated.

I've sat in cars in the pouring rain before now when trying to trace the cause of leaks Tam Most memorably in Pug 205s and Citroen Xantias...

My last major leak, in a Xantia, I diagnosed through old stains made by the passage of water over time... It was a good way as the eventual source of the leak was a really unusual one; the rear screen washer jet!

Ok, had a brief look around and found the following:

Door seals seem ok, no blockages and still flexible.
A "puddle" had formed on the plastic surrounding the wiper spindle due to a blocked drain hole(Cleared all holes I could find)
I found a new wet bit, this time in boot floor under O/S light cluster.
Cuppa and back out.

daughter's 106 used to come into the boot floor via the rubber for the light cluster, which itself would fill with a remarkable amount of water (ice on one occasion!).

Changing the cluster sorted it (looked hard for a crack in the old one but never found one). Note there are at least two styles of 106 rear cluster 'with lines' and without.

Presuming a 52 plate 106? Or a 62 plate 107?
