Hi and welcome John.
I've modified your post title from "Citroen C5" in order to make it a little more specific. If you can, post up your VIN so we can determine the exact engine you have.
It's just speculation at this point, but seeing as you have no instrumentation or displays when this happens, it may be electrical related. Something like the under engine fuse box - but without getting it diagnosed with a Lexia diagnostic, we will be just guessing at this point.

Ok, with the additional information, have you checked you battery lately?
The C5 X7 especially requires the battery to be in a good state. Have you had it tested and do you know when it was last replaced - if on the original it may well be due for replacing. Do we know if it is charging ok?

Your VIN number is visible at the bottom corner of the outside passenger's windscreen.
It's a sequence of 17 digits and letters beginning VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff].......
It will just help us identify the car a little better.

Re: Citroen C5 X7 Cutting Out / Electrical Issues
I'm just trying to rule out the easiest things to check based on what you have said so far. If the battery has been replaced within the 2 years, then I'm now wondering if anything has been dislodged on or near the battery area. There is a housing there that contains a lot of electronics and fuses including the under engine fuse box, relays and the like. If any of the connectors have been pulled or are not snugly connected that can cause problems.
There is also the possibility of a bad earthing point (of which there are many) - always worth checking these are sound. Check that the battery connectors are on attached tightly.
You can also try the BSI reset procedure used when disconnecting a battery. It can also help cure some electrical issues. Follow it exactly - it is important not to open the doors or press anything during the timings or the whole procedure will fail:
BSI Reset / Battery Disconnect / Reconnect Procedure
If this does not help, then it is possible that the Engine fuse board may have developed a fault or worse the BSI. A diagnostic session using a Lexia is the way to proceed after these basic checks - which won't cost you anything to try.

Re: Citroen C5 X7 Cutting Out / Electrical Issues
Ok, so you have the a C5 (X7) 4 DOOR SALOON 1.6 HDi 110 with particle emission filter (DV6TED4) and Manual gearbox 5.
At least you've tried a reset. What happens when you start the car - are you still getting a blank dash display and the same warning messages?
Can you also confirm if any electrical equipment has been added or changed / audio systems / accessories lately or any recent work done?
If your OBD scanner is also not communicating, then I would check all the fuses systematically in the passenger glovebox compartment (there's a top row too) and in the engine bay fuse box too as I mentioned. If there is nothing obvious there, then I would begin suspecting the engine fuse box or the BSI. Others have found a loose / dirty connector can be the culprit, especially if disturbed. I would suggest a Lexia - but as you cannot get any communication with your scanner, it is unlikely that a Lexia will work either if there is no power / communication.
I've had a quick look at the fuses for the Diagnostic socket - F7 in the engine compartment fuse box behind the battery:
You need to click the image to magnify and focus it.
