C4 grand picasso opinion

Post by shoogiesco »

Hi im looking at buying a grand picasso in the near future and have found 1 very local to me. going to have a look this week and would love some

http://www.glenfieldcars.co.uk/used-car ... 9129221024

I have looked at MOT history and failed Mot in august so cuurently has no MOT but is advertised with a years MOT, should I be worried?
Im also a little concerned about the small mileage on a diesel is this unreasonable?

I would really appreciate any opinions or advice on this

thanks
Sandy

If that's supposed to be a link to the car sorry it doesn't work.

If you like, I can send you the full specs in a PDF of this vehicle so you know what is does (or should) have when it left the factory? I already have the VIN

Wouldn't be too worried about this, normally car dealers will mean it will come with a years MOT, they may not MOT it incase it sits in the forecourt for months.

What they're saying about the MOT is that they'll put a full 12 months on when they sell it. There's no point getting a car MOT'd beforehand if it might sit in the showroom for a while. Just wasted money that way.

Is there an easy way to find out if this car has DPF or not?

It will have a DPF - the C4 Picasso only came with the DPF equipped 110 BHP engine. DPF on ours is still original at 110k, although it had new fluid at 95k. I'd be suspicious of this one TBH.... it's the earlier 16V engine, which has a reputation for lunching turbos. Mileage on this is not too bad, but it's been lower lately, suggestive of school run duties. But it's been MOTd at different garages each year, so I'd want to see the service history - if it's not been serviced at a dealer, then I wouldn't touch it (have a read of this thread: https://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/ ... 11&t=49995). If you only do low miles then I would go looking for a petrol one. If you need a diesel, then either look for a 2 litre one (which very rarely gives trouble) or scrape up the readies for a 2012 on 1.6 with the later 8V engine, which is much better (but avoid anything built before Dec 2011 which are prone to expensive injector failures).

A friend has one of similar age and reports no issues, good useful and flexible transport. Tows a shed (caravan as he calls it).

Your test drive might be on a cool day, but regardless do make sure the aircon is working properly. With that big windscreen its a bit like driving a greenhouse on a sunny day - warms up fast. They don't all have spare wheels so check if that is important to you, and if no spare at least check the inflator/sealant thingy is present.

I will be using it for a decent mix of short and long journeys bit I would prefer a petrol one but can't find one anywhere near me. I'm going to have a better look at the service history with a bit of luck its good but I'm prepared to walk away if anything is fishy.
