Central Locking

Unread post by Billathome65 »

Ok question

When using the key button to open and close the doors the key does not always work batteries changed.

That's not a real issue as I can just use the key in the door to do it.

BUT here's the thing the key in the door only locks and opens the driver door is this normal I'm assuming not.

Advice please.

Yes that is normal Bill on the C3, ours does the same. Manual locking just operates on the driver's door. The Central locking using the fob locks all doors and a second press activates deadlocking (if you have this option - depends on year and model). So it is worth getting the fob fixed, otherwise a bit of a PITA.

I would have a look inside the fob and get some electrical contact cleaner in there, especially around the microswitch - but be very careful. It may be a dry solder joint, hence the intermittent issue, or the microswitch solder joint coming away.

If you have changed the battery in the fob, try re-synching the keys - key in ignition, switch ignition on, hold lock button in for 5 -10 seconds, release, turn off ignition, leave car, lock and unlock car, then fire her up.

Cheers mate seems a stupid set up don't you think Ive never had a car where the central locking is just from fob but at least I know it's not a locking issue.

True - but remember the cracking central locking system in the 2CV? It was easy - you could reach all 4 doors from the driver's seat! :-D
