Part Synthetic oil into Synthetic oil?

Unread post by elma »

The vans have been swapped round today.

I've found an empty 1L bottle of 10w40 A3/B4 part synthetic oil in the cab of the new one.
The turbo pipe is leaking oil which explains why.

Problem is that the Van is Euro5 with a particle filter.
It's recommended oil is 5w30 C3 low SAPS Synthetic.

The oil on the dipstick looks watery and very black.

Will this mixture of oil cause harm or shall I ignore it?

Low SAPS stuff only or you will get DPF problems.....I never like to mix oil brands/types in modern engines.
New van = do and oil change whatever

I would be changing the oil straight away on it for the proper stuff then only top up with the same. It will be more expensive oil, but its either that or major problems!

Just to go in the face of opinion - who are not wrong - i shouldnt worry too much elma because i have seen vehicles run on non low saps oil and never get a particulate filter problem but i have seen many vehicles which have only ever used low saps oil get the particulate filter block.

If the next service is not far away you should be okay - the sythetic thing is not always that straightforward either and is mostly only used to extend service intervals and to help with emissions.
