C4 2005 1.4 central locking issue( not VTR or Piccasso ) ***FIXED**
Been a long time since i last posted, but this is the best place for honest and reliable advice
My son has the above mention C4 and it is driving me nuts.
The car can be locked on the fob and all doors appear to be locked. However when you try the drivers door it opens and unlocks all other doors and the boot.
The same thing happens when you lock it with the key from the passenger door ( no barrel on the drivers door as standard?).
Today he replaced the drivers door lock mechanism and still no joy same issue from outside the car.
He sat in the car with ignition off pressed the fob and all doors locked but the drivers door would not open from inside but would open from outside.
I have yet to get the multi meter out but he assures me he can feel the solanoid being activated and the latch does operate manually ie with a screwdriver if that makes sense.
Auto lock does work when you start driving, however not tried yet to see if drivers door will open when stopped from outside.
Have tried pressing the auto lock before moving, everything sounds normal, all doors are locked except the drivers door, it just opens as if not locked
Over to you experts, sledge hammer being dusted off

Re: C4 2005 1.4 central locking issue( not VTR or Piccasso )
Just been out and tested it myself and what he said is correct
i can lock the car on the fob ( press button twice ) and there is 2 seperate clunks as the solanoid engages. the door is locked from the inside, yet opens from the outside.
The windows will close and the doors lock as usual when the lock button is pressed and held in on the fob.
I have even changed the battery in the fob.
It makes no difference if auto locking is dis/enganged the same thing happens.
I am at a total loss, nothing seems missing, the door card inner pannel has not been damaged so looks like everything is as it should be.

I would be inclined to try a BSi reset, to see if that would clear the issue.

Thanks Hell Razor5543 was thinking along those lines, just was hoping maybe i had missed something obvious mechanical wise.
May have to wait till the weekend to try the reset, will give me time to try and find the radio code in his pile of paperwork

You may not need the radio code. When the C5 came out the radio was coded to the VIN, and only would throw a wobbly if it was moved into another C5 (until a Lexia session was used to inform the radio of the change). It is likely that the C4 has a similar configuration.

Forgot to mention something that may be important
He has a "Black Box" installed, would/could that make any difference to the BSi reset ?

Re: C4 2005 1.4 central locking issue( not VTR or Piccasso )
Right BSi reset done, time for a really big hammer me thinks
I may be unlucky but i have swapped the lock and still the same issue before i did the reset and the reset has not made any difference.
The lock is definitely working as it should so the only conclusion i can come up with is that something has broken in the outer handle.
My thoughts are that the cable that runs from the lock to the handle is correctly seated and is working to open the door as it should when not locked.
Should there be something in the handle mechanism that would prevent the cable operating the lock when it is locked but still allowing the handle to move?
Really have my fingers crossed that it is not a wiring issue to the lock itself, the plug and wires all look good, just maybe a short to earth that is telling the lock that it is unlocked but only from the outer handle ??
Can you tell i am confused lol

Good to hear from you Colin. I can't really help with the problem though as I still haven't moved on from my Xantia!
I found a photo from Haynes Motor Museum a few months back with my Xantia, your old one, Jims and I think Toby's Xantia too.

Have to be honest, wish i still had one Kevred_dwarfers wrote: ↑30 Jul 2017, 21:29 Good to hear from you Colin. I can't really help with the problem though as I still haven't moved on from my Xantia!

If i remember we all parked close to each other, i remember my good lady casting envious glances at Jim's Red one ( Xantia that is )
Was a good day out, and i think Robyn was there also, as was my boy, think he was 14/15 at the time , he is now 21
Have spent the last few days looking at lots of the unread posts ( 5+ years worth ) brings back lots of memories.
Glad you still have your Xantia, but you are no bleedin help with my current problem
