205 1.6 GTI Engine?

Hello, my friend has just blown his engine, can anyone advise where do good recon or replacement units and approximately how much they are. Based near Leicester so any ones local would be great although any info would be greatly appreciated[:D]

get an engine from a breakers yard, if you can find 1 with a gti. new/recon'd 1's aren't cheap!

1.6 GTi engines are 10 a penny and dont pay anymore than 70 - 80 for one. The likelyhood is that the engine in the scrappy will have done 100k and will most probably need a quick rebuild. Nothing major, but if you do rebuild it take your time and do it properly. Incidentally re shim it aswell and you will be bloody glad you did take your time to do it.
