Xantia- is there a way tho switch power socket
Hi all does anyone know if the cigar lighter / power socket on a mk1 xantia can be made to power on/off with ignition by e.g. swapping fuse position?

Yes, I think the fuse diagram in the handbook gives the required clues. F16 can be inserted in 2 positions.

Excellent link that should be stickied

You can change both the radio and the cigar lighter socket to be permanent live or switched live independently by moving their fuses. They're easy to find - apart from the shunt, there are only two fuses that can be moved to two different positions, (Three holes for the fuse legs) one for the radio and one for the cigar lighter.
I changed my radio to be switched live after it once ran the battery flat over a week of not using the car with the radio left on...

I note that the Xantia World site has not been updated since 2004 http://www.kolumbus.fi/~w496119/xw/index2.htm . Does anyone know how to contact the owner of that site to see if he will give us a backup copy of the data?

cheers
I now have a switched power socket. It's to make the dashcam start and stop via power.

Excellent post which saved me a lot of time. I intended to rewire my lighter socket so the dash cam starts and stops when the ignition is turned on. Job made so much easier by just changing the position of the fuse!

It's good to know but I still intend to hard wire the dashcam to the switched circuit anyway. I wanted to run it off the cigar lighter for the time being to see how I got on with a dashcam.
I'm thinking of wiring it from the wiring at the sunroof motor.

There's a possible solution which may make it easier - and involve less intrusion into the wiring loom.
I recently got a dashcam and wanted to have as little visible cabling as possible - I found there's a wiring kit available which piggybacks into the existing fusebox using a fuse adaptor. Basically you choose a fuse which is already ignition switched, and use the piggyback fuse holder to allow your dashcam to use this as a power source. Obviously has to be rated high enough to allow the original item to still be powered as well as the small draw which the dashcam uses.
Here's a link to the wiring kit
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Car-DVR-Dash- ... Sw2AFZufhG
and one for just the piggyback fuse holder on its own

Installation took less than half an hour all in.

I don't think that will be possible as the sunroof wiring will not have an ign switched live.

That's a good solution Ainslie.
@elma
Is it only switched to the console switch ? I guess it would be then.

Elma is not active on the forum at present, so don't expect a reply - however if it helps, I installed front and rear cameras on my C5 X7 and I did a write up with pics here - it shows a similar kit that Ainslie refers to.aerodynamica wrote: 18 Oct 2017, 15:42 @elma

Did you go down the permanent wiring route?
Just curious
