No turbo vacuum - 2008 1.6 hdi 90bhp

Post by 0491 »

Turbo not engaging at any point and it's become a nightmare up hills
Actuator not moving was first sign so put a silicone hose on it and did a basic test to see if it moved and held air and it held so realised that's ok. Pipe to the actuator is not getting any air going through it so i thought is the electrovalve dead on it. Replaced and blew through pipe to actuator to ensure its not blocked. Both made no difference so what next in terms of finding why there is no boost?
It is letting off smoke from that area on a high rev so carbon build up is not helping so makes me wonder if the cat is blocked in some way?

Doesn't help soon as you hit 3.2k revs it bounces back as if it's misfiring each time but i wouldn't know where to look so yeah, any help would be smashing. Thanks.

no fault codes via diagbox either.

If you have diagbox, you can record the relevant parameters while going for a drive. You can then review the recording at your leisure and should give a few clues, if only to eliminate certain functions?

Only just got diagbox and honestly haven't looked in to properly using it so I wouldn't know where to start

View Live Parameters is a sub-menu available after running a test for faults (either global or individual). Can't recall the exact steps but I generally run a global test then click on the injection section to get to these sub-menus.

You then have a choice of pre-set "standard parameters" or you can select up to six "custom parameters". Standard paremeters offers sub-groups including"Air Information" which will show relevant parameters of Turbo, MAF, EGR, etc.

Alright, I shall have a little look in to that.
Wondering also how to check vacuum reservoir to see if that's having an impact as no air getting to solenoid

On my car, I asked a neighbour to start my engine while I observed the Turbo actuator arm, which should move appx 10mm downwards after a few seconds of running. This confirmed...
a) The vacuum pump is producing a vacuum
b) The pipe isn't leaking (significantly) and delivers vacuum to the actuator
c) The turbo actuator is not seized (though I already knew this from pushing it down with my hand)

I've found the vacuum pump is pulling air through but it's not getting to the electovalve so it's either an issue with the vacuum pipe down to it or there is what I believe to be a one way valve on the same line, wondering if that is causing a problem if it's failed.

Haven't got hold of a gauge tester yet to check pump but interestingly from checking pipes i've found something odd as i've highlighted in picture below, any explanation? Disconnected to electro valve hoping to feel something flowing through with it connected to pump and nothing can be felt

Also my brakes feel fine which doesn't really add up if there's an issue pump to hose?
