You will need access to a Lexia and a tyre Exciter (but more than that I do not know).

Hi Alvin,

One of my C5 II Tyre Pressure Monitors was destroyed when trying to stop it leaking and the new one needed to be programmed.

There are two stages, the first is to switch it on from storage, not sure if Lexia does this but tyre fitters seem to have the kit for this, and the second is to link it to the car's ECU.

I think that the second stage obviously not only needs a Lexia but for the relevant wheel to be rotating and that would be on a rolling road at a dealership (Citroen or Peugeot). Again not sure if you could drive the car with a second person operating the Lexia on a lap top.
When mine was fitted but not operating it would take about two miles before the "not monitored" message came up on the screen.

If you get it done by someone else do ensure that they have switched the new one on and have not switched the monitoring off for all wheels because it is probably quicker.
You can check by running a few miles using the spare which if like mine will have no TPMS and the message for the relevant wheel will come up.

Hope that helps.
Andy.
If it can happen it will.

If you have the TPMS exciter for the valve then you shouldn't need to drive the car. The Lexia will guide you through the process which involves holding the exciter to the valve and operating it. That's the Mk1 process at least, the Mk2 uses a different system but should be substantially the same.

Hell Razor is correct, you need a Lexia and an exciter (which is a small hand held device), you then go through a programme in Lexia whereby you use the exciter on each valve as directed by Lexia then pump the eyes up to something like 3.6 Bar then go through the same process again followed by setting the pressures to normal and using the exciter again.

AFAIK there is no other way of doing it. Each car has the ability to store two sets of valves/wheels to allow for a set of winter tyres etc.

The Mk 3 can take an extra set of wheels, the Mk1 can't (at least I couldn't see anything in the Lexia menu). Not sure about the Mk2.

Our 57 plate Mk2 had the ability to store an extra set of wheels.
If it can happen it will.

What happens when you rotate your tires? You go through the procedure all over again?

Well, on my Mk III I swapped the fronts with the rears a couple of months ago and there have been no alarms since then.

Swapped the TPMS fitted wheels around on a 2006 C5MkII and the same for the 2007 C5MkII with no strange or normal messages.
If it can happen it will.

But if there's a leak on the front tyre, maybe system then tells that it's in the back and vice versa?

Possibly. But at least it would show there's a problem and a quick look around should show where the fault lies.

That's true, and I can live with that. I "recycle" my tyres too.

Diverging from the original thread topic a bit, I can't understand why the new advice (which predates TPMS) is not to rotate wheels.

They say that not rotating ensures that the tyres don't wear out all at the same time meaning you only have to buy a pair at a time. Well, to me, that's not an advantage at all. I prefer all four to run out at the same time so I can get four of the same make at once. In addition you can probably negotiate a better price for four tyres rather than two.

Up here in the north it's easy to rotate tyres when changing summer tyres to winter tyres and other way around twice a year. And I don't get it why you should have better tyres in the back on a FWD car in the summer. Also in the winter it helps out a lot to get car moving if better tyres are in the front. All cars nowaday have ESP-systems, so oversteering won't be big problem.
