Pano roof...i said don't..
A mate's about to get a C4 coupe (vts probably) with this and there's a bloody big crack in it i said they're over a grand to replace if they can't be repaired and i think quite heavy compared to a metal one. I read a bit on them and they get a mixed write up, i wouldn't bother with them but that's me. Has anybody here got or had one what did or do you think.

I had one a few years ago and the roof was cracked. I got it replaced by my insurance as glass breakage for 50 quid excess. The glass comes bonded into a melal frame which gets bolted and bonded into the car. I loved the class roof, i would have another with no thought. Must have been 5 or 6 years ago citroen wanted £1350 for the roof supplied, fitting extra. I would think insurance companies would write off a c4 now rather than pay near 2 grand to fix one. Its possible you mat get one from a breaker, or just cover it with a vinyl wrap. The roof will still have enough strength.

Pano roofs are horrible. Mates Picasso has one. No good at keeping the heat out in summer.
My Berlingo has 6 smaller windows in the roof. I found they worked best in the South of France recently with tinfoil taped over them to reflect the heat out!

The c4vts has interior blinds to close them off and make it virtually indistinguishable from a solid roof.

I have the C4 VTS with a pan roof and I like it so much that when it got written off and I couldn't find another one to replace it with, (even though it had over 180000 miles at the time) I had it repaired. There was one on ebay with only 38000 miles for £2000 recently. I was tempted and I don't think it sold. I have seen one on ebay with a cracked roof recently, but I'd wait for one not broken if it ws me.
I did try to buy Davie's old car, but the owner wouldn't sell t to me.

I noticed on my car insurance renewal that pano roof is excluded from the windscreen cover, so presumably a claim would hit your NCD. Other insurers may differ of course. Buying one pre-cracked seems a bit of a risk.
They are particularly good in gloomy winter weather, but even with blind pulled there is some greenhouse effect on a hot summer day.

Got one on my 307. It certainly makes it light on gloomier days, but yes, allows the heat in on a hot day. I don't think I would seek one out, but neither would it put me off buying a car. I also think my insurance excludes the roof from the glass repair part, so a full claim required.
