C5 mk 1 suspension pump failure.

Post by hirsty »

It appears the second hand pump fitted last year has failed. Car is flat to the deck and I can't hear the pump running. I can find numerous used pumps on ebay but it's a bit of a lottery. Does anyone know if refurbished pumps are available? Citroen stealer wants £1000+ for a new one ex France (if they are still available ) All fuses checked so not the maxi fuse in the engine bay. Any assistance appreciated.

Post up / PM your VIN and I'll have a look at the correct pump for your car. I should be able to cross reference it with the more common part number to aid in searching for the right one.

Did you keep the first pump Hirsty?

ok, so part is 5277 45. This is the model prior to RPO 10058. Your RPO is 09951 and is for Hydractive 3, not Hydractive 3 Plus.
5277 45 BHI
5277 45 BHI
So based on this, I've had a look briefly and found the following suppliers:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2003-GENUINE- ... SwCfdXpEUx
£85 (but looks quite tatty)
http://en.bildelsbasen.se/?link=list&gg ... =114100101
(£177) - Sweden

https://www.eurofrance.pl/Pompa-Hydraul ... rrency=GBP
(£105) - Poland (DPD Delivery £19)

I would just buy another s/h one. You should get one around £70. Fit yourself and it will be viable . IIRC no Lexia needed.

Can anyone confirm whether Lexia is needed to activate the pump after changing.

Not if you fit your original ECU to it.

Steve is quite right - replacing the BHI (as in if this was a new unit) requires the following procedures:

Activate the identification of the type of steering wheel angle sensor
Adjust the vehicle height (height references)
Configure the functions that serve the suspension

So if you keep your own ECU, and replace with a 'like for like' BHI (replacing with your ECU) the settings should be retained.

I have ordered a "used" pump from ebay. Is there anything I need to check/replace to try and ensure a longer life. I will be using my existing ecu so hopefully wont require a Lexia session to activate.

I can't really suggest anything - other than making the pump work unnecessarily - like raising the suspension needlessly.

I would look at the electric motor and give it a clean out etc. Check brushes and clean any excess carbon from windings etc. Make sure all connections are good inside the motor and redo any dodgy ones that may have high resistance. I haven't done it myself but this is my plan when it happens.

Keep your old unit and strip it down to check for faults. It may be saveable. Would appreciate some pics of any progress if possible, should you get the time.

Has anyone replaced this item before and has any tips and hints to pass on? The pump arrives tomorrow and will get a clean out with electrical cleaner.

OK so back in business. It was a corroded maxi fuse holder that was causing the problem. My favoured mechanic spent hours going through the electrics with a fine tooth comb to sort it. I now have a spare working pump c/w ECU which I shall be refurbing. Does anyone know where I can obtain the four brushes as I think replacement is desirable/necessary ?
