Citroen 1.6 HDi DV6C problems

Post by onix45 »

Hello, i have a 2013 Citroen C4 1.6 HDi (DV6C 8V engine)

I was wondering if this engine suffers from the same faults the old (DV6) engine had?

To be more specific i am interested in these faults:
1. The injector bolts still come loose and leak carbon?
2. The turbo oil feed pipes still get clogged because of the small mesh filter in the pipe? Does it even have a filter anymore?
3. The engine oil becomes dirty really fast and requires frequent changes?
4. Any other known faults with this particular engine model?

Thank you.

I believe so, have a look at this post and also the PDF in the link within that post: It seems to be a common problem with burned seals under the injectors - getting into and mixed up with the oil and blocking the strainer, preventing oil lubrication. As this engine was used by Ford, Volvo, PSA, Mini and Mazda, it's quite hard to get reliable information. As you say in 2011 it was replaced with the 8V and SOHC version:

I may be wrong but I believe that the DV6C 8V engine has been redesigned and doesn't suffer from any of the problems that afflicted the earlier engine. The injector bolts are meaty things now compared to the 16V offerings.

I'm certainly hoping that everything's been fixed as we have the DV6C engine in Pug 308!

I hope this is the case - it is difficult to get reliable feedback from owners with these engines in other cars, as they don't go into detail of the engine variant.

1. No, they use a proper clamp with a decent sized bolt
2. There is still a filter, but it's much larger; I've heard of virtually no turbo failures on this variant
3. Not really - see above re the injector seals
4. Not really - my parents' one had to have a new injector at 50k, but I've not heard of anything else specific. Mind you, it's only been around 6 years, so only just coming into the age where failures might start occuring.

The newer 8 valve engine is a whole different kettle of fish to th e16valve unit.
We have seen few issues regarding lubrication, in fact none !
Some injectors have been faulty, always seems to be a particular part number, and lately we have had several injector clamps failing, so the injector is no longer held down , causing lots of noise & smoke. Looks and sounds as if the engine has blown, but actually a fairly easy fix. About £14 fora new clamp.
