Help needed! Citroen Xsara mileage gone nuts.

Unread post by Redstar23 »

Hello there!

I have problem With my 2003 Citroen Xsara. When I was driving home from work, suddenly all the gauges stopped working and the lights of the airbag, the passenger airbag, the abs, and the stop sign illuminated on the dash and the fuel gauge went to full tank. The strangest thing was that the car was running well there weren't any faults with the car itself, it just came out of nowhere. When i have arrived home with it, stopped then restarted the car the mileage counter went to 999999. I hooked up the car with my computer using an autocom device and i looked at the mileage data stored on the bsi and it was ~1070000. After that i have tried to communicate with the dash and i couldn't. The result was that i have replaced the dash and now all is well, but the mileage hasn't changed back to the original value. Any idea how to reset that value to the original? It bugs me that it still shows that false value and i fear that it will fail the mot because of that.

Thanks for the help in advance!

Hi and welcome!

The mileage is held in the BSI and in a control module in the dash IIRC, and will always revert to the highest mileage - whichever is the highest. Given that you have changed the Dash and therefore the module - the unit is showing the higher mileage, which in your case was the donor unit. You can't change this as a general rule, without specialist equipment.

The milage is recorded at the MOT but it wont fail as the odometer is not tested as part of the test.
There are plenty of people out there that offer milage 'correction'
