Re: Favourite colours for cars
I mentioned the other day (can't find it at the mo!) about my first car being an 1100 I bought from Bob's dad to put his maroon doors on my sisters white car and then ironically I have just seen this in next week's Mathewson's sale:

Re: Favourite colours for cars
So I have always wanted a red car, never had one yet. Problem is I usually buy used so when I find a decent enough car, it's the color it is and it's basically impossible to match a desired color with a decent car.
So when I was looking to by a Citroen C5, I went and checked this one in the picture. On the spot I said to myself - the car looks perfect, so it must be a bad car. It was an Estate, a perfect cherry red, 2.0 HDI 136hp engine with automatic transmission and it was selling for 3000 euro so mostly on the higher end of the price range. Visual inspection good, but the service record shows generic ATF fluid used and not specific one. I said ok, the transmission will slip and, gues what? After getting outside the city, I was not able to go faster than 70km/h, the transmission would just slip like crazy. So yeah...
One time I bough a new car and there was the base color which was red but it was not the correct red, it was the cheap red. The good red was 460euro extra and that was a lot of extra money on a 11600 euro base brand new car so I went with the other free color - white. Now, if I would buy a new car, it will most likely be the nice cherry red as in the Hyundai i30 picture bellow (Sunset Red). If I would have to include all the new cars, even the one I would not buy, I think the Mazda 3's Soul Crystal Red is the best (and the most expensive at 690 euro extra).
Sorry for the long post.

Re: Favourite colours for cars
If I have already started the story, then why not continue with the entire story.
So te Hyundai i20 in the pictures was a used, 3 years old at the time car, with low milage and decent enough price. It was a 1.1 CRDI engine with Euro6, manual, but, of course, there was a problem. The owner could not find the service book so there was no warranty on the car because of the missing service book. I called the Hyundai dealership and the said I must have the service book or there is no warranty.
And now, the most painful one, it was the red Kia Ceed (the one in the picture), it was a 1.4 TGDI 140hp, manual, 8 inch info display, rear camera, heated seats but it had no rear parking sensors and no automatic climate control. All in all was a nice combination, it was 15600 euro at the time (including all the incentives for new cars in my country) and me and my wife disagreed for the 600 euro over the budget because we established a 15000 euro budget for the new car. I would say this was the closest I ever got to having a red car and, of course, my wife had to say something about it. Should have divorced her on the spot and get on with my life but hey, we all do our mistakes. Of course, I would have given up on the alloys or something to lower the price under 15000 euro but it was not possible because the car was already there. The dealer would lower the price 100 euro further but there was no reason for him tu cut the price by 600 (or I was not a good negociator). Needless to say that a lot has changeg since then but this might not be the time and space to talk about that
So this is how my story of not having red cars is at this time. Sorry for the offtopic. Hope I will get a red car in the future. Who knows?

Re: Favourite colours for cars
Welcome to the thread Alin, and as the original thread starter, some years ago, I have to say that I welcome posts of any length, no need to apologise, and an interesting read. Some colours of cars do stand out in the sea of grey, and the Mazda red is a case in point. I liked my wicked red Picasso too. My current car is Alizarin Crimson Pearl with shiny chrome door mirrors! I like it!

Re: Favourite colours for cars
While looking for a Megane Hatch, I stumbled upon this one and I really like this color. Not sure if I like it more than the red but it's really nice. I also went ahead and checked it, it's a good car, I am not sure, at this time, if I would purchase it as the seller and I have not reached an agreement about the price.

My 'silver' C5 is grey on the log book, my regular old lady passenger says she sees it as white.

Re: Favourite colours for cars
Today I finally bought a red car But it's not for me. It's somewhat french. My dad's 2000 Xantia HDI is on its last legs so he needed a simple, reliable, good for the city big car that can carry a lot of flowers.
My solution: A 2013 Dacia Logan MCV (Combi), with a 1.2 16v 75 hp (Euro5), 5 speed manual with too many options and 77000km on the clock. By the looks of it it's a Preferance or Prestige trim level but I cannot say for sure. It has MediaNav Navigation + Bluetooth, electric mirrors, AC, rear parking sensors, cruise control, leather steering wheel and gear shifter, 4 electric windows and a huge boot. It is a cost effective car for basic transportation with a lot of flowers in the back. (He has a small flower business). The car was originally bought new from France and then exported to Romania. The engine is made in France and the car in Romania but, of course, it's a Reanault engine and transmission.
In the picture - my dad and his new car.

Re: Favourite colours for cars
Just had a brief look at Glenmarch's list of upcoming auctions and viewed the lots for this one in my territory.
First up for a click of interest was lot 1 at WB and Sons coming auction....yes a sierra-beige Golf. So is beige one of my favourite colours for cars, not really, just occasionally provokes a second look
A four and a half minute walkround is maybe too much although useful if you actually want to bid on it.
