Seems like I've bought a DS5

Unread post by qprdude »

It's not in my driveway yet, but some papers have been signed a small cash deposit has been prised from my clutching fingers. I think I may have got a decent deal by playing two halves of the same dealership. One half Citroen and the other half Hyundai. I like the Hyundai i40 tourer and after a long tryst with the Citroen sales people, I scooted round the corner with the proposed deal for the DS 5 and collared a Hyundai sales "executive"
Carefully massaging the Citroen deal figures, I managed to secure a very acceptable deal on an I40. The call of the Citroen was still strong though, and I returned to their showroom triumphantly waving the Hyundai "improved offer" In my greedy little mitt!
After much to-ing and fro-ing, cajoling the manager and threatening to return to Hyundai, the Citroen manager not only equalled , but beat the opposition with a final offer to tax the DS5, and to administer and pay the fee to transfer my cherished number. From the original offer, I squeezed a further £200 for my C5 P/Ex. I get a 1 year Citroen approved warranty, a machine polish (the car, not me) full valet and a tank of diesel.
2013 Citroen DS5 2.0l D/ Sport Auto with manual sequential change if required. Usual refinements like full leather elec, heated seats, panoramic three part glass roof etc.
I took an hours test drive and found it much quieter than my C5, decent ride even without hydro susp.
Time will tell, and it will be a steep learning curve. First thing to remember? The fuel filler is on the nearside!. Next Thursday is the changeover. 8-[
Rick.

Interesting. When I bought my ill
fated Berlingo I told them how much I wanted for the Roomster and wouldn't take less. They laughed and said they couldn't get anywhere near that so I said thanks, got up and walked out. The girl chased me across the carpark to get me back in the showroom. We had another Mexican standoff and I walked out again, this time I was in the car with the engine running when she came after me, obviously after talking to her boss. They offered me what I wanted. You have to be prepared to walk out when they don't give a decent PX price. They hate that. :-)

Rick - glad you've taken the plunge - we really must have some photos please :-D and of the inside especially - do you have the boeing aircraft ceiling and the watchstrap seats? I'm reaching for a bucket already!

If it's the model I think it is, the ceiling will look something like this Dave:

What are the switches for? I'm not a big fan of switches in random places - I struggle with a single switch on the ceiling (sunroof) as is.
I'm pretty fond of LH PRN switches of my GSA - I've never been in a Visa but I think I'd like it better than GSA as the RH side is air conditioning control (so to speak), everything within reach. Plus the underdash shelf is quite neat. The location of the dashboard mounted switches through the steering wheel is super dumb though.

They're not random. They control interior lights, panoramic roof blinds etc, like most cars. They are just laid out a little differently . Most cars have them clustered round the main interior light. DS have just expanded on that and introduced a nice overhead console complete with Ray-ban pockets.
It might be a "marmite" thing, but I like it.
Not sure what you mean by "dashboard switches mounted through the steering wheel"

It's a lovely design, and if fitted the roof holds the adjustment switches for the Heads Up display too and the emergency SOS call.

Yes. Guess who hit the emergency button whilst fiddling about without checking first? Credit though, they answered at the first ring.
I think it does have the heads up display controls up there. A little screen pops out of the dash when the engine is started but I hadn't a clue what it was, and it wasn't activated.

Nice to have the reassurance isn't it. I did the same on my X7 when I first had it!

What's an XR3? Is it some kind of inferior automobile?

I'm going to have so much fun in the next few weeks, learning what everything does. It's nearly 5 years since I bought the C5, and I'd almost forgotten that feeling when you're waiting to collect it. =P~
