2010 C5, pre heat remote?

Unread post by Quackers »

Just picked up my new car, a C5 3.0 V6 Exclusive + Navi and reading through the handbook it says you can get the car to pre heat so as soon as i start it there should be toasty air coming out the vents, great for those winter mornings. Now i have looked everywhere and there is no remote hiding in the car, so before i go to Citroen and try to order a replacement, is this something thats standard on the Exclusive or is it an option pack? The manual does not say anything about it being an option.

Additional heater comes as standard at least in Finland. On first C5 X7 it didn't have clock or remote, and it did only work when motor running, but remote/clock with pre-heating became standard around 2010.

At least in Germany some cars do have additional heater, so it has been an option you can order when buying new car.

Yes quite a few of the models come with the additional webasto heater. Xantias, C8, Synergie & C5 etc but ive never seen a UK spec one with the remote control or progamable timer. They normally just run automatically when the engine is on & the outside temperature is very low.

In the UK (maybe elsewhere) SFAIR it is illegal to have/leave a vehicle engine running while unattended, so a simple remote or timed engine start would not be legal.

Do any cars still have mains-powered block heaters fitted? Rover P6 had the facility for this (threaded plug in the block). There was also the 3kW Kenlowe HotStart, I remember.

Not sure that's the case. A friend had a BMW that came with all of that stuff. It was a uk model and he bought it new. We used to be quite envious in winter as we all left work and he had the only warm car.
Maybe this is why American BMWs keep catching fire!

It only starts the webasto on newer cars , whereas on older xantia and synergie HDi it needed the engine running iirc

The webasto heaters (with the right kit/spec) can be timed to come on or remote controled to come on independently of the engine so no legal issues. They pre heat the coolant without running the engine.

Is there anyway to tell if my car has this fitted? I don't want to look silly at Citroen ordering a replacement remote for something my car does not have.

Have you ever noticed a clicking followed by a mini jet engine in the winter?

If you were to post up your VIN I am confident that somebody with the relevant access will be able to look it up and let you know.

Heater is installed in front of the left front wheel. There is an hole under bumper that has got metallic pipe/tube which is exhaust for webasto. Under 5C that automatic heater should start up automatically when motor is started, and you should feel warm blow from that exhaust pipe. Webasto on C5 runs quite silently, so it's not possible to tell wether it's running or not by noise when motor running.

If you have heater, but no remote/clock, then you might also need water pump to make it pre-heater. If its Webasto Venturi (aka. smoke machine), it doesn't have water pump to circulate engine coolant, and you cannot use it for pre-heating.

Btw, I just bought new Binar 5D -heater (russian webasto) for 350€ for my HDi240. 8-)
