C5 1.6 THP Wiring Diagram

Post by Brian C5 »

Hello

Can anyone help me with a wiring diagram for a 2012 c5 1.6 THP (petrol). A 5 amp fuse keeps blowing in the F21 circuit in the under bonnet fuse box. The hand book states its for "actuator motor"s. But it does not state what the actuators are for etc.

I found this fault whilst trying to figure out why the cooling fan is not cutting in.

Thanks in advance

Brian

Hi Brian, welcome to the Forum. Post or PM your VIN number and I'll take a look for you, as wiring diagrams are dependent upon car options and specifications and will therefore differ considerably in some cases.

Preliminary data suggests that firstly fuse F21 should be a 10 Amp, not a 5 Amp fuse and supplies the Fan unit module power supply, connected to the Cooling Fan Electronic Mixer. I would prefer to double check once I have your VIN, but if it does turn out to be the same, that would probably explain why it is blowing all the time!

Thanks Marc for getting back to me with this info, a great help. The hand book states 5 amp however a local garage (Halfords) who looked up Auto data for me using my registration number said it could be ten as well.

The VIN number for my car is VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff].

Could a faulty Relay/control unit for the cooling fan cause this fuse to blow?

Thanks
Brian

I think you are missing a digit Brian - should be 17 in length - (just for your info) but I have your details from the VIS now.

Slightly different as I suspected, now we have your car up -
F21 is for 1590G - the Fan unit relay power supply, going to the 2-speed cooling fan electrical control unit, but remains a 10 Amp fuse. First, I would replace the fuse with the correct Ampage and see if that resolves the problem. Then if it starts blowing, further investigation is needed.

I think that fuse might also feed the auxilliary coolant pump for the turbo.

You can try disconnecting the pump and see if the fuse stops blowing.

The original pumps have a habit of shorting internally. There was a recall for mini and BMW as some caught fire, but on psa it just blows the fuse so no recall.
You may find the pump cheaper as a mini part.

Well I had a go at your suggestion about disconnecting the turbocharger electric auxiliary cooling pump. The new fuse a put in did not blow, my air conditioning started to work and when the engine got up to full temperature the cooling fan cut in to cool down the engine. I then reconnected the electric cooling pump and the fuse blew right away proving this is the fault as you suggested. I can' thank you enough for this tip my local Citroen garage wanted 98 pounds just to plug their dianostic computer in !!!!

Citroen part number is 98 067 907 80. Cost is 198 pounds but you can get them on ebay for 68 pounds they say they are oem parts but you are never sure.
The mini part number is 11 537 630 368 I can get one from a uk supplier on ebay for 56 pounds I have not tried the mini dealer yet for a price.

As you said the mini had a recall but PAS did not, can you tell by looking at the pump if you have the updated one or not. Are there any outward markings etc. ?

I will let you both know how I get on when I get the new pump. Once again many thanks to Marc and Xantia v6 for you help with this much appreciated.

You can get a genuine Citroen one here from Poland for £65 and £18.95 on top for DPD delivery:
https://www.eurofrance.pl/pl/p/Pompa-Wo ... rrency=GBP
Original PSA Part No was 1201 L8 and replacement part was 9806790780 as you say. So any packaged part with the long RP number will be the new replacement version and the PSA number will be the older model. So the one in my link is the newer version Brian.

Other than the part number and I think a date code, the old and new units look identical.

When I bought one, I discovered that there are 2 different versions for the mini, and the one I bought did not fit, but it was only the mounting bracket that was different and swapping on my old mounting bracket made it fit OK.

Connecting diagnostic equipment would not have helped in this case, it does not even tell you that the fuse is blown, just that there is a permanent fault in the cooling ECU.

Thanks for your advice on the cooling pump I have decided to try the mini version even if I have to change the steel bracket. I can get it for Tuesday from the main mini franchise dealer but the best bit is the price thiry three pounds and 24 pence including vat. I will take my old one to compare just in case its different. I will let you know how I get on.

Thanks again

Well today I fitted the electric water pump for the turbo I got lucky the one I ordered from BMW Mini part number 11 537 630 368i had the correct steel bracket fitted. I took photographs of the old pump and the new one to show there is no diffence apart from the price (Mini 33.42 pounds, Citroen 198.22 pounds in VAT). Everything works now, the new pump is so quiet you have to hold it to feel for vibrations so make sure its working.
Can let me know how to load the photographs as I am new to this forum.

Once again many thanks to Mark and Xantia V6 for your great advice/tips you saved me a lot of hassle and money.
