Installation of amplifier

Post by Ceenine »

Do I need to switch (using Lexia) my head unit from speakers to line out prior to connecting upon amplifier? Any other suggestions for trouble free installation? My vehicle is a mid spec. radio/cd no multimedia C5 X7 2011 model.

Are you installing the Amp for a subwoofer or for the normal speakers?
Does your head unit have phono outputs for the amplifier?

The amp is for normal speakers (4 ohm). I will check now its stopped rain and I will revert.

I have checked my head unit, it is a Bosch - RD 4 MP3 unit and does not have RCA terminals. Therefore I have to identify a remote "out" to provide power to the amplifier which I wish to instal, or obtain power from the accessory output from the car' electrical system.

It appears that I will need to tap into the speaker outputs from the head unit (Bosch RD 4) and switch the relevant section on the amplifier.

Usually on an amplifier power is taken directly from the battery on a fused supply.
The remote connection simply turns on and off the amp with the head unit.
The RCA connections carry the sound.
I think you may need to change your head unit in order to use an amplifier.
There are amps available that use the speaker wires for the signal but they are generally prity bad.

I've heard that it's possible to change RD4 (or any other Citroen original headunit) speaker output to line level with diagbox. So if you have amplifier with only line level input, use diagbox, and after that you have to make (or buy) cables that connect speaker output to rca-input. https://www.amazon.com/IEC-Speaker-Wire ... Remember that you have to use 4ch amplifier if you want to play also with rear speakers - or want to hear parking beeper sound from them. I think you can only change all outputs of RD4 to line level, and if you don't use amplifier for rear speakers, output will be very low.
