Parts for Hydraulic pump

Post by amp1 »

Hi all,
Not having a good time with my 94 xantia 1.9td recently - In the past 3 weeks i've replaced the radiator + other cooling system pipes,
rear height corrector, had an mot (which was fine) and now the hydralic pump has finally let itself go after what I hoped was a more permanent repair previously with the hub on it.
The original problem was air getting into the LHM which turned out to be a hairline crack on the hub of the pump next to one of the bolt holes - this I thought I managed to cure with oversize seals and a packed out washer. Now the plastic hub (which is triangular and has three holes) has cracked even further as it can't take the tension from the drive belt.
Citroen do not sell this part - only a complete new pump - they sell a new hub for the other type of pump which is square and has 4 mounting holes (a better design, but still should be made of metal)
Does anyone know where (apart from scrap yards) I can get a new hub for my pump, as thats all thats needed - I always hate it when manufacturers make you buy a whole unit rather than parts for it!
BTW the parts dept at my local cit dealer told me that the GSF parts were not genuine and wouldn't last! - maybe thats why they can justify more than double the price for the pump! Funny how the bits from GSF come in the same boxes and are marked genuine - also they tend to be the correct part and not some totally different thing altogether that they argue about taking back for a measley £10 !
thanks in advance,
Andrew

It may be worth you talking to Pleiades who are Cit hydraulic pump specialists.

Sometimes what appears to be the most expensive route is often the chapest in the long term.

Sadly Pleiades only sell complete recon pumps and apparently its quite a common fault for this to happen. It looks like i'll stump up the cash and be visiting my local gsf this lunchtime.....
thanks,
