2.2 hdi engine.

Post by demag »

What are people's thoughts on this engine? I've been looking through C5 ads and see quite a few of these with low mileage. I've also read about many fap problems. Are they practical especially round town?

I liked my 2.2hdi in my 03 reg c5. I deliberately bought it for towing. I took if from about 50k to 130k, only problem was a turbo sensor went causing limp home mode, a new sensor cured it. I wasnt too economical, about 40mpg solo, but i did consider it ok at the time for the size and comfort of the car. It needed the Eolys fluid filled up about 85k if i remember correctly, was done at a main dealer so therfore was expensive. I would happi,y hav another 2.2. I think they werent particularly well liked though, i may well just have had a good one.

My first C5 was a 2.2, I had no problems with it but changed it for a 2.0. because the fuel consumption was so poor, this seems to be a problem with some but not all of them, my son has a 406 coupe 2.2 and its nearly as good on fuel as my 2.0.. I'm talking about struggling to do 50 mpg on the motorway compared with 60 mpg+ for the 2.0.

Had mine 6.5 years done approx 80k in it in my ownership. Sine changing the injectors my fuel consumption is approx 47mpg mainly b roads and had over 60 on a run.

Never had a problem with anything but is looked after. Changed the injectors as they measuring to far out and engine was lumpy, only paid £75 per new Injector and runs great now. Dpf still present and all working fine, car done 142k.

The only thing I'd be wary of is most of my driving is in town, 2-3 mile journeys and a weekly run of 20-30 miles. So I think the dpf might come into play here.

Ah ok. Any problems with so much town driving? I'm not ready for petrol yet. The only petrol I would look at would be a Prius and they're out of my pension price range.

Hi, I've had my 2.2 for 3years and love it. I think it's about realistic expectations. My previous car was a 2litre mondeo auto ghia x Estate and my c5 Estate is better in every way. More comfortable faster more economical can carry more and is far nicer to drive. Only thing I needed to get was a lexia which is invaluable for home servicing. When my c5 dies I will get another.
