The peccable/sinful CV joint spring break down

Unread post by tzami »

In most Citroen,Peugeot and some Renault cars there is a spring in each inner (inboard) CV joint toward transaxle/gearbox side left and right. This spring is used to pushing the male spline of each driveshaft/halfshaft into the female spline of differential(transaxle). To my own Citroen C2 1.4 HDi these helical springs found deformed/permanently compressed when it came to removal the driveshafts to replace the shock absorbers…..to other PSA cars found the said spring broken when I searched on the french google. In the inner CV joints with spring there is and the spider tripod with its three bearings……The spring is applied to the tripod at one side and at the other side to the tripod housing/splined shaft. When this spring broke down caused significant wear at the spider tripod………maybe and at the splined shaft(male) of driveshaft and at the female spline of gearbox because the male is goes a little out and inside continuously into the female.
The problem is elsewhere………the adorable company/manufacturer of Citroen don’t provide/supply neither the spring nor the spider tripod……but also nor was there a spring in the inner cv joint boot(gaiter) kits(either genuine or aftermarket) (which I bought….)
WHY?Because the manufacture Citroen will force you to buy whole the driveshaft!!!!For one spring???YES……for one little spring….Also,I searched for aftermarket springs separately, but they do not exist….only one Chinese anonymous/unnamed manufacturer spring, spider tripod and the tripod housing/splined shaft (as kit) on Alibaba site I founded….but was sold wholesale!!!!(50 kits min. order).
Other auto manufacturers supply/sell the spider tripod (spring does not exist in the driveshafts)…..
Finally, I was forced to buy two used driveshafts (of other Citroen or Peugeot models…either right or left…all springs are the same….for this reason the Chinese didn’t clarify the model and installation side …only Citroen wrote on Alibaba).
But,how we discovered that the springs was deformed/permanently compressed?
When,we removed the driveshafts, tripod housing/splined shafts were hung(big angle) from residual driveshaft. Also, you can check the springs when the driveshafts are on the car…..you push the tripod housing to the outer side……if it moved, the spring must be replaced….
I upload and some relative photos ….broken spring….Chinese kit….and others.
