I'm trying to nail a cause of something like an airlock in the water system. That's right - from time to time, I develop a fault with engine warning light, and a gruff tickover with reduced revs. I solve this by massaging the top hose. Symptoms then dissapear for a few hundred miles perhaps, or a few weeks.
Seems like some kind of airlock. I have no clue what may be causing this to happen. I imagine it is having An effect on the turbo.
Any ideas?

Thermostat struck me... but wondered if some kind of electronic gadget I didn't know about might be affecting it... can't work out why the symptoms occur as a result - my understanding from reading what I've come across is poor.Hell Razor5543 wrote:Sticking thermostat?
Anyway, as you suggest it, no harm in swapping it over then, so I'll do that and report back after a few weeks.
Much obliged, John.

Re: Xantia hdi requires massage
If the EML is on, then a Lexia session should show what it is upset about. I can't see that: a) the fault is anything to do with the top hose b) massaging the top hose does anything to remove the fault c) massing the top hose does anything at all in fact! Something else going on here.... like you lean on the fuel filter when you're doing it and this wobbles a cable somewhere, or you remove the engine cover, or lifting the bonnet disturbs what ever is at fault.

Thanks Richard = I'll consider those observations. Yet, concerning point b), the massaging trick works every time as soon as as I restart the engine, and without doing so it continues - repeated the operation at least 25 times! No removal of engine cover, leaning on fuel filter.. but maybe it wobbles cable - I should watch out for that, although I have inspected all in vicinity for soundness of connection, and resolution of fault.
Have yet to replace thermostat, which if sticking might well be unstuck by massaging. Also, the fault always occurs upon starting up form cold, perhaps within a minute or two.
