A week or so ago I got a message pop up at the instant the car is started.
It tells me that there is a 'parking assistance fault'.
I plugged in my reader to the OBDII socket but it finds no faults.
Might this be to do with the parking sensors?
Can I easily get rid of the indicator?

It will be to do with the parking sensors. You've probably got on bad sensor dragging the system down.
A generic OBDII reader will only read error codes from the engine ECU, not the parking assistance ECU. You'll need to get the car plugged into Lexia or a more specialised code reader that can read the codes from the rest of the ECU's.
David.

Thanks. Last night, while reversing twice into a space, I deliberately got close to each side in turn. One side showed on the display, the other didn't. So I tried the old tested technique - hard tap on that sensor. Result - fault gone.

Ideal, it could just be a loose plug on the back of it then

Re: Would like to get rid of this warning on my C5 2009
The Mark IIs had a lot of issues with water running back down the wiring into the sensor plug. A slight re-routing of the wiring prevented this happening in future (I had about 3 replaced at the back due to water ingress), but no issues on the X7 so far. Often, when one sensor is out it will disable the whole system, so I would check it out at some point if it starts to go intermittent on you. As David says, Lexia will tell you which one it is.

Of the 4 ultrasound reversing sensors, I had the left one replaced.
At about 60K miles I noitce very occassionally in rain that sensor will show full reading although there is no object behind.
After a few months, this sensor failed and a "service" fault message showed up on the instrument cluster every time the car is put into reverse gear. The whole revesering parking aid will not function.
Lexia diagnosis identified the exact faulty sensor. After replacing with a new one, the system is restored to normal.
