Xantia 1 - Instrument Pod Circuit Board

Unread post by Saraphee »

My circuit board has ruptured and I no longer have a working fuel gauge. I am told that the culprit is the small part pictured below - and that it is impossible to replace in Thailand.

Does anyone recognise the item and more importantly, would anyone know if it possible to obtain one and from where please?

If this part is not available - do I need to replace the whole circuit board or instrument pod?

If the person who diagnosed it is good enough to know that board is at fault, I'd expect them to be able to also do a quick re-flow of the solder joints and see if that cures the problem.

Also if re-flowing the joints doesn't fix it & the part proves impossible to get locally, surely the individual components could be removed and tested/replaced as needed too. I very much doubt it's the board itself at fault, more likely just one or two components which ought to be more easily available.

Ive got about TEN Xantia X1 instrument pods, and here in the UK only EVER come across one that went faulty and I swapped the board over..

Im sure a tiny curcuit board like that should not cost a lot to send to thailand..

Thanks for those helpful replies. The electrician that spotted the problem did a re-flow job yesterday but when I went to visit this morning sadly it has not solved the problem.
The pod is back in place and I'm driving but the gauge has the needle pointing to full and the warning light on!
Tomorrow it's take the mini board off and send it to Bangkok as the skills to fix this don't seem to be here in the North - or the guys don't want to take the risk.
I'll keep you posted, it may be that I need to get something sent over if I may. Shipping is not a problem, I've done it for Alfas, the Lotus and for both Citroens in the past.
All I have to do is grit my teeth when the bill for import duty from Royal Thai Customs comes along.........................

Are you sure it is not the sender on the pump (in the tank) that is the problem ?

Highly unlikely.. they are litterally a wiper system via resistance setup.. the signal from that is then sent the small pcb which converts the resistance signal to the level on the guage. Contary to popular beleif the tank sender is not directly connected to the guage like a lot of people think
