Suspension issues again

Post by C4robot »

Hoping someone can give some advice, I have a 2012 C5 tourer exclusive with hydroactive 3 + suspension the car has done 40,000 miles but the suspension is acting up, suspension is no longer soaking up the bumps in the road, I have speed humps on the street where I live and they are so small the normally you can't even feel them but in the last couple of weeks when I go over them you would think I had hit a stationary object :/ the same thing happened when I drove over a slightly sunken man hole cover at 20mph the car dropped and crashed over it, now it just seems as there is no dampening with the suspension, it's just so uncomfotable though it is fine on the smooth motorway, bounce test when stationary is fine but once your on the move, it's just gone awful, have checked fluid levels which are fine, height correctors look good, I am at a lost end, Citroen diagnostic says all is correct but did say could be a sphere on its way out but no way to tell, any advice would be greatly appreciated, Thanks

Sounds like the spheres are at fault! without the proper Citroën testing tool it will be difficult to identify a certain one!!. Locate weather its front or rear suspension that feels hard by road testing then I'd recommend replacing both spheres o/s and n/s

I believe that the spheres used on the C5 are multi layered, and should be good for 10 years (and probably more). If they HAVE failed then they were very sub standard. I wonder if a Citrobics session (taking the Citroen from full high to full low, wait a minute, back to full high, wait another minute, and then repeat several times) might help, as it helps to keep things moving smoothly.

Unfortunately a couple of citrobics sessions have had no effect, an because each corner of the car acts normal with the bounce test I am wondering if it could be one of the 2 stiffness spheres or the anti dive sphere perhaps ? Only reason I think is that the crashing over bumps and humps is felt sometimes by the front wheels, some times it can be the back wheels, can be just the passenger side or sometimes just the drivers side but mostly all wheels. Normal suspension mode feels like a stiffer version of sport mode and sport mode feels ever firmer again with little or no dampening effect unless you are on a smooth motorway then the suspernion feels more normal but not as it was.

Seems this problem is getting worse and the suspension is becoming unpredictable and is making me nervous at speed when cornering, can anyone recommend a independent specialist who works on these cars as i do not fancy the two main dealers i have been too they have quoted £250 per sphere to change and they do not even know if this will solve the problem as they say feels fine to them and the computer says all is fine with the suspension if all 7 spheres need changing its going to be an expensive job, I was hoping someone else may have had a similar problems and could share their experience, its becoming a real headache :( I am near Newcastle Upon Tyne
