back brakes on x7

Post by KennyW »

Quick question, Since the weather is very pleasant here I thought I would do my sticky caliper.

Is worth lower the suspension to low removing lds cap before deactivating electronic hand brake as I'm going to raise the rear onto axle stands to do caliper and change pads.

I have printed off the guide Marc sent me but nothing mention re suspension.

Have the engine running then remove the lds reservoir cap put the vehicle in High position!! Once in high turn off the engine!! Then you disengaged the handbrake!.

Stick it on high Kenny, then remove LDS cap. The cap only needs to be removed if the wheels are going to be suspended hanging free and the procedure is only mentioned where the operation would require the wheels to be raised unsupported.

Perfect Marc and ell270390,

But my diagbox is only partially working so can't do the electric handbrake disengage. I'll have to do it manually.

It appears the diagbox is starting the global test and recognising the first 3 or 4 ECU then the rest are not communicating and not being recognised.

During my run a warning message saying the memory is getting low, can this be the problem and what is the solution.

Please excuse my ignorance but I'm not computer literate.

You don't need to use diagbox or lexia to disengaged the handbrake!! With the engine off just turn the ignition on with brake pedal pressed then press the handbrake release button and you should hear it release you can then just turn off the ignition!. Hope this helps

Your laptop could be doing windows updates and the like, and if your system is already low on memory it can cause it to slow down. Diagbox is quite resource hungry and runs a lot of processes. Best thing is to let god laptop do any updates (if it's running Windows 7 or above) in the house for a while, until they are all installed and let it restart. If you are on Windows XP you won't be getting any updates as it hasn't been supported for sometime now. If you have any antivirus software doing a scan that can also slow a system down, moreso if it is a slower system to start with. Just make sure you quit any scans and don't run any other programmes when using Diagbox Kenny. Not sure what system you have, but if your system supports it, a memory upgrade can improve things considerably.

Let the system finish any updates and the. Let it shutdown and restart. Then try Diagbox again.

Marc,
Running Windows xp professional, I started the system up and removed unwanted programmes before starting diagbox. I allowed it plenty of time to to update antivirus etc. My other option is to update to windows 7.

I'm thinking about reloading Diagbox again to 7.62. to see if that helps.

How much physical memory have you got in the system? If you have 2Gb then that's barely adequate - if you do take the Windows 7 plunge and if your system supports it, you might be able to bung 2 x 2 Gb chips in, although the 32 Bit version of Windows 7 will only use just over 3 Gb. Also, if, like some laptops, your physical memory is also shared with the graphics processor, then it will really struggle. If that's the case, and you upgrade to Windows 7, the internal graphics may be able to utilise the extra RAM not used utilised by the system - again all this depends on your rig Kenny.

I would suggest staying at Diagbox 7.57 (possibly 7.58). According to Easy Diagnostics, versions after this have less local capability, as the PSA group appears to want to bring it more under their control.

It looses some telecoding functionality on some models from versions later than 7.62. There should be everything on your car up to 2015 with 7.58.

Okay, thanks for the replies.

I think it has 2GB of memory. So would this explain the inability to find all the ecu's during a global test ?

Secondly, what would be required on a laptop to operate diagbox system well ?

That is the way I did mine on Vel Satis. You get no faults that way to need possible clearing by diagnostics.

Another thought, when to manually releasing the electric handbrake before or after disconnecting battery in view of waiting 15 minutes to allow ecu's to close down.

Am I over complicating the issue or just confusing myself ?

Release handbrake first, as was said earlier with ignition on, foot on brake, release, then ignition off, then you can close doors and wait 5 minutes or so for network to 'sleep', then disconnect battery.

Thanks Marc,

I'm going have the laptop checked to see what upgrades are needed and if is worth doing.
