Citroen C5 Rear Suspension problem

Unread post by propertysuper »

Afternoon, any help would be appreciated. I have a C5 Exclusive (2008). Went out today and the rear suspension dropped to the floor as I was driving. Managed to limp home as I as just around the corner. Tried it on the highest setting and it rose as it should. Then put it to the 'Normal' driving position and the front went to the correct level but the rear went to the floor.
Anyone had this problem? Thanks

Hi and welcome to the Forum.

Have a look at this thread:
https://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/ ... or#p521545

and this one:
https://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/ ... or#p521195

Saves repeating the information - just don't get underneath the car without it being supported by axle stands or some other lift - if the rear depressurises with you under it you will be crushed.

Checked underneath this morning, the thin connecting bar has snapped, anyone ever replaced one and does anyone know the cost? Thanks

From a Dealer, about £20.00.....they "pop" on and off.

WHY has it snapped, rusted ?

Remember, take care under the car.

If you are going to do this yourself, try not to remove the height corrector or loosen it on the axle by undoing the clamps and moving it, otherwise this will muck up the suspension height references. Otherwise, clean up the area and mark the position clearly.

If it is number 10 in the diagram below, it's the angular pickup and this is £4.79 inc. VAT from Citroen.

Thanks, I didn't touch the height corrector, for once a fairly simple and hopefully cheap repair to a Citroen! Thanks again for your help and advice, it is greatly appreciated. Selling it next month and buying a Grand Picasso

Head rusted off/broken, exactly what happened to my one.

Whilst you are under the car, check the condition of the anti-roll bar and its coating where it goes into the bushes. If it is broken up and corrosion is setting in, clean it all off, paint and waxoil the bar either side of the bush. The rear multi sphere block and its mounts are also worth treating as well.

The roll bar bushes only come with..................the roll bar itself @ £400+ as they are bonded to the powder coating.

So worth the effort :)

(Powder coating is brittle, and the roll bar is a flexible part....good choice of material :) )

All sorted and back on the road, thanks goes to the Parts Dept. at Evans Halshaw Hartlepool, ordered at 9.30 am, telephoned me at 3.15pm to say the part had arrived! Excellent service. All greased up, and checked, working perfectly. Thanks again for all your help.
