5mph 2000rpm limp mode on 1.6 hdi Dispatch?

Unread post by davie206 »

Anyone any ideas? Only faults we have is low dpf fluid. Just done the timing belt and replaced 3 broken rockers engine starts and idles fine but won't go over 5mph or 2000rpm.
Limp mode usually allows you to go a bit faster than this so was wondering if this could be what limp mode looks like on the newer dispatch vans

I take it the timing belt snapped as you have broken rockers?

Have you managed to run a diag yet?

Not quite snapped, tensioner failed and stripped the teeth off the belt

Cam and crank are timed up. Yeh only dpf low fluid faults but van was running before with this fault

If the DPF fluid has been low a while possible the DPF is blocked. Low fluid shouldn't put it into limp mode so it's upset about something else - if there are no other codes, what's the DP across the DPF? Try removing the upper pressure sensor from the DPF and see if this allows it to run?

Ok I'll check that today and remove that sensor.

Richard should I remove the sensor or just the electrical connection?

I was thinking to unscrew the stainless pipe out of the side of the DPF - this will give the exhaust somewhere (noisy!) to go upstream of the DPF. You can do a similar test on a petrol for a blocked cat by removing the lambda sensor.

Disconnected the exhaust from the manifold now we have thick black smoke pouring out with the engine running. No revs above 2500rpm I'm thinking it must be a compression problem now

I wonder if you may have a bent valve of two?

Didn't look like any of the valves were bent when I had the cam ladders off, all valves compress and they all sit flush as the there spring position but the only real way to know is to get the head off I guess boo

Compression test FTW before the head comes off ;)

Do a quick test of compression by disconnecting the supply to the fuel stop solenoid, so the engine won't fire up, and crank over on the starter motor. You should hear each piston "making an effort" and the engine turn-over being even. If the turning accelerates in places, there's poor compression there. Similar action to cranking a petrol engine with a spark plug or two removed.

Don't have a working diesel compression tester right now, I'll do a relative compression test on it with the scope and try get another tester on monday
