XUD7T injection pump problem

Unread post by moizeau »

A couple of days ago the engine on my BX started surging on tickover and sounds like a bag of spanners. Above 1700 rpm it'd fine. I think it's got the CAV pump. I've checked the 'extra fuelling diaphragm' to see if it's spitting diesel into the plenum chamber, as this went several years ago, and all seems OK. The throttle arm on the top of the pump has got some wobble, and the revs can be altered by moving it perpendicular to it's normal direction of travel. So I assume it's sucking air. The question is, how easy is the repair? I've played a lot with the epic, but I haven't a clue what's inside a mechanical pump. Any advice, drawings would be much appreciated.

There used to be a kit to repair the throttle spindle on those, about £7.50 back in the day, the surging is likely the pump sucking in air through that, a straightforward enough job.

Cheers, is it just take the top off? What precautions are needed regarding spindles etc? I'm guessing there must be a worn bush also? Thanks again
