Xantia rear brake nipples??

Post by Timmo »

Afternoon all,
i'd like to replace the rear bleed nipples on the car as one is a 7mm on one side and the other is at best a 6.5mm or maul wrench to get a good enough grip on it to turn it! having just replaced the aging fluid with hydraflush i thought i could cheat the rear system by going between the spokes on the alloys to bleed it! ;-)
have been searching a little on the forum but couldn't find much more info that M8 30mm length, i don't want to get a pair and find they don't work mid way through as would normally be my stylee! ;-) i tried a part number search with the details from my vin on service.citroen but came up blank,
any hints or pointers into or links for suitable replacements??

many thanks in advance,
Timmo.

I don't think you can get them from Citroen any more (NFP), but when I had to bleed the brakes on my Xantia many moons ago I followed the advise on this forum, and spent a week Plus Gas-ing them. They undid nicely when I cam to bleed them.

I saw they were nfp, shame it has no details for them other than name though, most other bolts and nuts it gives a description of size and thread,
Mine move fine but I'd like to replace them if I can, just so I can use one spanner rather than 2 and a wrench! ;-)

I wonder if early C5 ones would fit?

I was wondering that as well. I know that the 'nut' head is larger (10 or 11mm), but I don't know if the thread is a match (the basic shape is, but I don't have one of each to compare against).

I've just checked service citroen and the Xantia calipers are different from the early C5.

While the calipers are different (and the drain screws have different stock codes) I wonder if the threads are a match? I know the bottom is a cone shape, with an offset hole.

I'd not be at all surprised if they were the same in thread and length James...

For the cost of them it may be worth a punt perhaps... Can't imagine they're very expensive.

But you can only buy them in packs of 10 from PSA dealerships.

A bag of 10 would be handy for 2 1/2 cars I suppose! After all, we all have the odd half car scattered about! :-D

The problem is that the drain screws for the rear C5 brakes are not the same as those for the front, so 5 C5s would have new brake drain screws.
