Tyre Pressure Gauge
Pulled up at the mother in laws house, got out and heard a hiss. At first I thought it was suspension but on closer inspection found a massive screw in the tyre. Drove half a mile to the local kwick fit to see if they could patch... they took it off and said the angle it went in at meant it was not repairable. Only tyre they had in my size was a Michelin for £210. Absolutely not happening! They put the the old tyre back on and I drove it back to the mother in laws. By this time all the other garages were shut. So to get back to my house was about 5 miles away but tyre at this stage was close the flat. Tyre check had come up as low pressure and then, flat tyre service.
Wife suggested a can of foam, so without thinking attached it and let it do its thing. Went out an hour later to move the car and noticed when I pressed check on the dash there was no readings and the warning.
Then I'd realised I'd probably just f@cked the tyre sensor [emoji35]
I'm guessing these aren't cheap to replace?

Re: Tyre Pressure Gauge
Or maybe the tyre is just holding pressure? lol ever the optimist me...
If the sensor isn't picking anything up, you may get away with cleaning it up and fitting a repair kit for about a fiver but otherwise I think they're about 90 quid from what I've seen...
I think a good clean could work though, although I've no personal experience of fiddling with the things... (whatever happened to checking ones tyre pressures of a weekend while washing the car? lol)

Re: Tyre Pressure Gauge
None of the sensors when I press 'check' have any reading on them. It's def not holding pressure as it's flat as a pancake!ekjdm14 wrote:Or maybe the tyre is just holding pressure? lol ever the optimist me...

Re: Tyre Pressure Gauge
oh.... bugger
And they definitely worked OK after you left the tyre place? (always worth checking, as I have heard they can sometimes damage the sensors during removal/fitting of a tyre.)
As none of them are showing a reading it could be something else though, maybe the system got confused by the movement of the sensor away from it's designated wheel hub? I'm not really familiar with exactly how these things work, but till someone who knows more turns up... For all I know it could just throw the system out because one tyre is completely flat...

Re: Tyre Pressure Gauge
No, the X7 system is a bit cleverer and it shouldn't make any difference what corner the tyres are on.
Did you not have a spare to attach or don't you have one? Hat tyre repair foam can wreak havoc with the sensors, but Citroën do supply a type of this with a compressor for vehicles not supplied with a spare.
Kwik Fit be damned, rip off merchants. Get a matched tyre from Oponeo or Camskill delivered and just pay for the fitting. Just get the fitters to check all the crap is removed from the inside and nothing is obstructing the sensor.
If the sensor is knackered then make sure the replacement is of the newer type that don't corrode like the originals. You may find all the sensors will need programming again if you need a new sensor, otherwise this can lead to intermittent issues.

Re: Tyre Pressure Gauge
I think most of the major tyre places have a stock answer / excuse that a tyre can't be repaired for <insert reason here>. It might be too late now you've used the tyre goo, but rumour has it that Micheldever Tyres up the road at Winchester will do vulcanising repairs.

Every time I've taken my cars to Micheledever they've found a 'crack' and refused to fit a tyre unless I pay them to weld.bobins wrote:I think most of the major tyre places have a stock answer / excuse that a tyre can't be repaired for <insert reason here>. I've got a spare but didn't think to ask the garage to fit it at the time unfortunately.GiveMeABreak wrote:No, the X7 system is a bit cleverer and it shouldn't make any difference what corner the tyres are on.

Do you have the part number in case I need a new sensor?

Yes, as soon as I pulled out the warning system flashed up so def has something to do with me putting foam in the tyreekjdm14 wrote:oh.... bugger

Just a bit odd none of them now work

Re: Tyre Pressure Gauge
Ben, Part number for new type of sensor is 5430 T4.
There's a genuine one on the bay here for £52 inc. Del.

Re: Tyre Pressure Gauge
I've just realised I forgot to put the link into the last post like a plonker, but see you found it already! A bit better than £90, which may soften the blow with the replacement tyre. I get my tyres ordered online and fitted at ATS or other trustworthy local. I save money every time.

Yep found it and as you say softens the blow, so thanks for that.GiveMeABreak wrote:I've just realised I forgot to put the link into the last post like a plonker, but see you found it already! Best value tyres I can find were £75 fitted
Had two of them put on the front when I first got the car
