I have just heard on the BBC lunchtime news (business news) that PSA are in talks to acquire Opal (Vauxhall in the UK). Things could get interesting.

Ahh good, a decent Vauxhall is at last in prospect!
How about a Vauxhall 208 and a Citroen Nova

While Opel & Vauxhall are inextricably linked, i.e. some Opels are built here & some VX's in Belgium, & with Holden out of the equation there is still the problem of separating the twins from the parent, as being global models some are built as Chevies over the pond.
Personally I'm more intrigued with the bid for the Ambassador.

Does this mean that our sacred forum is going to be invaded by vauxhall owners ?

Make it a condition that they have to own a Citroen as well as a Vauxhall....
Most Vauxhalls can get over walls..... when the magnetic grab at the scrapyard is slinging them..........

Is it like running a marathon - going through the wall after about 12 miles or so ???

LOL at all the comments above... Love it!
I've owned two Vauxhalls during my long driving career... A Viva, which was the worst car I have ever had the misfortune to own, and a Chavalier which in all fairness was a competent family car. It was as bland as a bland thing though...

Re: PSA in talks to acquire Opal
I loved my two mk1 astras, and my mk2 cavalier but went French after that and never owned a vauxhall since. However Kerri's astras mk5 was a good, if boring car but despite being serviced twice as often as vauxhall said expired at 134000 miles which was disappointing.

Mk.1 Cavalier was like driving a wardrobe.
Mk.2 Cavalier (Vectra) was like being shut inside one.
Astra altogether more spacious.
BX and Xantia like stepping out into the fresh air.

Re: PSA in talks to acquire Opal
I was intrigued when I read this story earlier in the week. It doesn't surprise me that Psa are looking to expand (they are too small to remain properly competitive and have had that problem for years). Similarly GM have nearly sold off Opel before, so on all those fronts it makes a lot of sense.
What surprised me though was that Psa would have the money to buy Opel!

Re: PSA in talks to acquire Opal
I had a number of Vauxhalls in the early days, Velox and Cresta mainly, a friend of mine bought a Chevvy which under the bonnet looked almost identical to mine, certainly the engine was the same, as a result of this I thought GM and Vauxhall were inextricably linked.
