Gearbox code
Hi there, please help!!, the gearbox has just died on my 206 and I'm trying to find a replacement but I keep being asked for a code. As the car is locked in the local garage I don't have access till Monday. Can this be done with the reg etc?. Please help.

Re: Gearbox code
Thank you very much for your help. Not sure as to what has failed as old box is still on the car. Car still goes but there's a rattle/scraping noise when the car is moving. More so when taking foot off the gas.

Re: Gearbox code
Sounds like it could be diff bearings possibly, has your garage checked the oil level/condition & what have they based their diagnosis of gearbox failure on? obviously without hearing the noise I can't say for sure, but there's some other things that could cause rattling/scraping like a dying/disintegrating clutch or even just a CV joint being dried up... I'd have to assume the garage know what they're doing though but it's worth double checking before replacing the box I think?
If the gearbox is out of oil then I have heard of them coming back to life with a fresh fill & another change 1500miles down the road although this would be a "discretion call". If there was oil but it came out looking like metallic brown paint then more likely the box is dying.
