SEDRE on windows 7 64 bit

Post by wheeler »

Does anyone successfully have SEDRE working on a Windows 7 64 bit machine ?
I've been trying for a few days now, doc backup works fine, SEDRE installs but wont let me view any diagrams.
I have installed SVG viewer.
At first I was getting a this document cant be found message so I have re installed it, now when I get to selecting the diagram I just get a white screen where the diagram should be. Any ideas ?

I have it running on Windows 10 64bit. Try closing the 'white window' and you may then see the main Sedre window.

This is what im getting. There is also a blank pop up that appears when I open SEDRE, I have allowed pop ups & it makes no difference if I close the pop up or not.

It's fussy about the browser as they changed some software components in IE 11 and later that it doesn't like. I have it running on a Windows 7 Ultimate Virtual Machine under Windows 10 Pro 64 Bit, but I have it running under IE 9,

I completely forgot to say, you will need to install the 32 bit version of the IE9 browser as SEDRE will always open a new instance of the default system browser and it does not like the 64 bit version at all.

I keep this software well away from my main OS given its quirks and messy installation routine.

Thanks, i'll look into rolling back to IE9.
How to I go about making a separate OS just for running this ?

There's an article here that might be of use:

You'll need a licence key for the VM OS though and an ISO image of the OS you intend to install. Ensure your hardware, storage and memory is up to spec beforehand.

OK i've been having another go at this & its now driving me crazy.
I've resurected an old PC & done a fresh install of 32 bit XP with sp3 and running IE 8 & im still having (amost) the same problem.
The only differnce now it on the white screen i now get the text > The file xxxxxxx.svgz is not available.
If i dont do the full install & do it so i need the discs to view diagrams they load no problem but i would really like to have it so i dont need to put discs in every time i want to view them.
Also slightly off topic, can you save the diagrams & repair procedures as PDF's ? How do people post up diagrams etc on here ?

Wheeler, I've got it running on Vista 32 bit virtual machine inside Win 10 64 bit. I gave up trying to do a full install - it takes forever, and kept falling over - I just did the partial install, then I've got the DVDs on the PC as ISOs, and mount them virtually with Alcohol 120% which only takes a few seconds.
