X7 Remote - Problem

Unread post by Sloppysod »

Hi All,
I replaced the battery in my remote a couple of weeks ago, I thought it was getting flat because sometimes it would not unlock the car first time. It worked fine for a while but now it is starting to behave the same, is this a sign of my fob circuitry packing up or what, if so can I reprogram another 2nd hand remote with my Diagbox, or will it be a main agent task!? :(
Thanks
Stu

Over time when the keys are dropped or with constant pressing, it can cause the micro switches to become loose and eventually come away. Have a look when you open the fob to see if the unlock micro switch is loose. I soldered a friends back on after it had completely detached itself - working perfectly now.

I am not sure on the X7 if you can reprogramme a second hand one from another vehicle Stu.

Cheers Marc,
Micro-switch(es) are still attached, I took the fob apart and used the buttons direct (fingers) and if I applied pressure to one side of the unlock switch it worked fine, could not find the same sweet-spot on the lock, the lights one is fine, but then again it does not get used that often. I think the switches are past their best and will need replacing. Thanks for you help.

You could try using some switch cleaner/lubricant on the microswitches first. I used the cleaner/lubricant on the microswitch inside our wireless doorbell switch some years ago and it's still working.

You can get the type which is cleaner only (i.e. no lubricant) but I don't think that would be as good.

Thanks Paul, I have some of this stuff and I did think of trying it before replacing the switches, as my soldering circuit-boards with bad eyesight & 'Gorilla' fingers is not easy. [-X

Using my spare at the moment, I think I am lucky to have one.

You could always try synching the fobs again. Turn ignition on only then hold lock button for 10 seconds.

If it sometimes works then surely resynching is not the solution?

They can become unsynched at times as the codes are cycled. It's a recommended procedure to do and can be caused when using at long ranges. It's just another suggestion that won't cost anything to try.

If it was un-synced then surely it would not work at all. Nope I think the switches are becoming old and tired, just like me :?

Thanks again
