Interior Lights

Post by hoggers »

Bought some LED lights to replace the standard ones.

A bit annoyed with myself as not only have I managed to lose one of the 11 pieces the rear interior unit has come away from the headlining. My stupid fault as I thought it all came down but now realise it was only the plastic light cover that needed to come off. Anyway i now can't get the light back in position...

Ignore the dirty marks, I've cleaned those up.

Any ideas how I can rectify??

I know, it's a bit of a sod to get the plastic cover off! I can't find a diagram for this, but I do know the aerial bolt is accessed through here. The whole unit does come out, but would likely swing / unhinge - I THINK there is a clip up on one of the sides that you would push in slightly with a flat trim tool to release it - but if you've yanked it out, you may have just bent the metal clip. You may be able to repair it once out.

Have a look at the image - this will give you an idea of how it is fixed! This is an identical unit.

So this is how the 11 pieces are made up.

Unless I'm being dumb (quite possible) I can only find one boot light! [emoji848]

Plus I've managed to make my glove box light not work so may have to buy a second had unit.

Coming along nicely Ben... There's only one boot light. I opted for ice blue interior LEDs for footwell and under seat lighting. I've not done the map lights yet as I can't make my mind up what colour I want them - and I've left the rear interior light as it was a git to get off - so will tackle that another time - did you manage to sort the rear light? I don't suppose you have a pick with the lens off so I can see where the hell to prise it off, as mine is stuck fast and I didn't want to break it!

I've got the whole rear unit hanging at the moment. Managed to pull it down. There are two metal clips on one side that need squeezing in and are effectively the things giving it the resistance. With regards the the light cover there isn't a visible clip to start on, just get a very small flat head screwdriver and work your way round the outside and it will pop off.

On the subject of the map lights I have had them on the in the front but now can't get them to come back on. Is there a combo i need to be aware of? Do the keys need to be in and engine on etc... ??

Under seat lighting? Is there any??

If you've replaced the bulbs with LEDs already - watch the polarity as some of these need to be in the right way to work
Under seat lighting - yes if you have the comfort function (which you have IIRC), then their should be a light under the passenger and Driver's seats. They are well-tied up with cable clips, but are do-able as I replaced mine. I'll try and get a couple of shots tomorrow for you to see.

Just been back out there and can't see any under seat lighting.

Also had another go at getting the map lights to work but no joy. Put the old bulbs back in and still doesn't work [emoji35]

Ps there are two little cut outs at each end of the light casing to put a flat head in

How do I know it's blown? I thought there was normally a bridge that would have been broken

You can't always see. There are some spares inside the fusebox cover with the pliers.

I will suggest you put the fuse back, and then remove it (and repeat a few times). My rear wiper was not working. When I checked the fuse (with a multi meter) it was good. After I did what I suggested the wiper started working again. I think there was surface corrosion on the fuse and/or contacts.
